Just purchased a 2008 mini cooper S with 55,100 miles _ one owner. Car fax shows water pump was replaced 3 times & 2 thermostat s. I purchased the car 4 days ago when the engine light came on. Took it back to the dealership. They say it needs a thermostat . How can this be happening so soon?

Not sure. The installed part may be defective. I would get a second opinion if you you have any doubt of the diagnosis.
