I have a 2006 Cooper, 5 forward speed manual transmission. Lately, while in gear, the RPM will increase with no acceleration. Light pressure on the gas does not cause this issue, but a harder press does. Is this fluid level or a more serious problem. Clutch and shifting is smooth in all gears including R. I have not seen any fluid leaks below the car.

Sounds like the clutch is worn and slipping.
