Cruise control on my r53 no longer works. I've heard that this could be related to the clutch safety switch. Should this be the first thing I try? Thanks!

hard to say. It could be the issue. You can check it to see if the signal is faulty, before replacing it. However, checking the DME for fault codes and monitoring the cruise inputs is also a good place to start.
