I have three questions.
According to the Haynes manual on these cars if you change the throttle body the car needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer or someone with the right equipment to do so. Is this true? And if so, will the car run, maybe in safe mode, so that I can do the change and then drive to the dealership for the reprogram? I have an 09 turbo R56 that is throwing two throttle/pedal position sensor codes (P0120 & P0221). Another much better scanner than mine was also able to pick up 2B0B - Throttle Valve Potentiometer and 2B07 - Throttle Valve Potentiometer 2. I was also able to look at the volts for both Potentiometers, which are listed as Pedal Position Sensor #1 and #2. #1 will go up to about 4 volts by applying the throttle, while #2 won't quite reach 2 volts. The problem is I don't know which sensor number is #1 and #2. My guess is the sensor on the pedal is #1 and the throttle body is #2. Can anyone shed light on that? Thank you! |

I believe all you need to do when installing a new throttle body is an ECU reset. I know on BMW's you can leave the key on and after about 30 seconds the throttle motor "cycles," this is when it "learns" the stop positions. You can usually hear it do this. Once it does you turn the key off then start the engine and it should be fine. You should also make sure the faults are cleared from the DME too. You can try this out and see if it works for you. Since the R56 does not have electronically-controlled throttles ("drive-by-wire"), the position sensor is on the throttle body itself and not on the pedal.
