Neither remote entry works - R56
So... I get in my car after work one day. I decided to readjust my interior rearview mirror. Doing so, water starts leaking from the day/night knob and the seam between the glass and plastic.
It has been raining slightly but not too heavy and my windshield replacement is almost a year old.. I get home with constant dripping from the mirror even though the rain is almost stopped. I remove the mirror and inspect the base where it attaches. That is dry. I pull down a bit of the headliner. That is dry. I disassemble the mirror. There is a circuit board in there even though I don't have auto dimming. The inside is soaked. The back of the mirror is wet. I was able to lock my car with a remote that night once prior to disassembling the mirror. I left the mirror hanging, completely disassembled to dry out and check for more leaks. Nothing. The next day, neither of my remotes work. The cars computer lost programing for the remotes as well. Removing the key/remote from it's docking, shut down all of the cars electrical where prior to this, only opening the door did this. Things are back to normal now except for the non working remotes. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow but I'd like to have an idea before the try to screw me. Thanks |

I believe that's where the antenna for the remotes is, so it may have been damaged. Not sure what they'll charge for it, though.

Yes, the receiver is in the rear view mirror. Did you by chance have the sunroof cracked a little while it was raining? If not, it's also not uncommon for individuals to see water from the mirror or passenger side foot-well if the sunroof drains are clogged. May also want to check the top upper seal on the windshield. You can take a pressure washer and spray the upper side of the windshield while someone sits in the car to see if there is a small leak somewhere. Same with having someone spray the sunroof area as it could be a seal on the sunroof as well.
If the mirror is completely dried out and nothing is working you may need to change it. We can provide you with a new mirror and changing it out isn't too hard. |
