My wifes 2006 Cooper S sometimes has an issue where it will not rev or accelerate,it just gives enough to get to the side of the road.is this a "Limp",and what causes it???

If the transmission is shifting otherwise, no it is not. It could be a faulty turbo, fuel pump or engine misfire.
