My 03 mini s 6 speed manual trsnny started slipping at high rpms. What could cause this. Also the cat which is built into the end if the exhaust header is leaking and loud. Meinike quoted $1000.00 just for exhaust assembly. Any known patches?

You can't patch exhaust.

First check the transmission fluid level to be sure it is correct. Then check the transmission ECM for fault codes. If the system is not working properly, a fault code will be set. This will be your best bet when diagnosing.

Couldn't this be the Clutch slipping on the flywheel? it sounds like what mine is doing in my 05 Cooper S also.

I agree with brazharris on it being the clutch. I replaced mine 3yrs ago in my 07 mini with about 110,00 miles...mainly highway miles.
