Nick,

Have a 2010 Mini Cooper issuing 2856 and 285A fault codes on a scanner and they are showing descriptions "Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor guide" and "Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor reference" respectively. Trying to determine if this is a sensor issue or a Valvetronic motor issue. Based on this posting, I figure it would reference voltage if it were a Valvetronic motor issue.

Thanks,

Dennis M.

Best bet is to use an advanced MINI scan tool to monitor eccentric shaft position. With that data, you can see if the shaft is moving and the signal is being lost, reverting to a default reading. The sensors are more common.
