2005 Cooper S Coolant Leak
Hello All,
Need help from the experts here. I've discovered a coolant leak on my 2005 Mini Cooper S, and after putting him up on the ramps, I got underneath and noticed it's coming from the side closest to the firewall. I can see the coolant "trail" along side the engine block, I can see this when viewing up thru the power steering cooling fan (from that area). I know the water pump is on the other side, where could the coolant be coming from on the firewall side? Can't really see where it's originating from??? Any help is much appreciated! Lou |

Update...
On further investigation, I removed the air cleaner box and I can see the leak is originating from around the thermostat housing, or the temperature sensor on the cylinder head... We shall see! I may replace the thermostat gasket, and look at the sensor as well If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate it information Lou |

Can you post any pictures by chance? Are you seeing it where it attaches to the block, as you can see in the image below? If you take a peak in our thermostat replacement article here: MINI Cooper Radiator, Thermostat and Hose Replacement (R50/R52/R53 2001-2006). It might give you some good visuals to compare to what your leak looks like to confirm if it is indeed coming from the housing. It is a plastic part, so make sure the part itself is not cracked or leaking. Is your MINI throwing any codes as well?
