I have a 2009 Mini Cooper S. It seems like I'm adding 1/2 a liter to a full liter of oil at every third fill up. I don't see black smoke coming from the car but there is a soot build up on the tail pipes.
I notice an increased oil consumption when I run the car in "Sport Mode." I'm wondering if this has to do with a bad seal on the Turbo Charger?

Could be, or a faulty oil separator.

How many miles are on your R56? MINI says it's normal to burn a quart of oil about every 1000-1500 miles. Now, this being said as "normal" has been discussed to the death. Personally, I don't believe an engine should consume oil at this rate, but many different manufactures say the same thing as MINI. You can check for oil leaks to be sure that you're not losing oil that way: MINI Cooper R56 Oil Leak Diagnosis (2007-2011) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article.
