Cooper S front suspension

My wife picked up her S yesterday. I finally got to drive it today. It's a nice car and fun to drive, but the front suspesion seems too stiff. The rear seems firm but when driven hard through a corner the front feels like it is packing down from too much dampening. When it does this the front starts to hop or skip sideway while the rear stays smoothly planted. Has anyone else had this experience? Will it get better with mileage, (it only has 50 miles on it now) or did they just miss the target on this point?

Otherwise the car is very nice with lots of cool features such as radio/CD player control with finger tip buttons on the back of the steering wheel and multi-way adjustable seats. The fit and finish is good and it is very quite on the freeway much like the BMW's we have owned in the past.

Eron, have you tried the boards over at Minimania? They have quite the active board for the new Mini. http://minimania.com/

Kurt,

Thanks for the reply, I have been to minimania and they have some good stuff there. The car seems much better now, I think it is mostly that I am driving it like a front wheel drive car rather than like a rear wheel drive car like the Miata it replaced.

The suspension does seem to have loosened up a little in 1300 miles. It's a really fun car, the only complaints I have now are the mirrors and front cup holders are too small.

Eron,
Does your MINI Match your S? I have a red S (not the Salmon Colored one) and have a Red Cooper S on order. I hope they play well together...

Sort of, my BMW S is black and silver, the Cooper S is silver and white. The two wheeled one is faster...

I've figured out how to drive a front wheel drive car and am not complaining about the front suspension anymore. When the tires wear out I will replace them with the 17s though.

susally, it take some time for new shocks and struts to "settle in" On my 325is, it took a few months for the shocks to get to a point where they lost some of the stiffness. This may be the problem. Do you not what kind of struts and shocks you have?

I don't know what kind of shocks it has. I feels much better now than it did when new. It has about 5,000 miles on it now and is more fun than ever.

The run flats ride very rough. You might try some 'standard' tires to smooth things out.

The S with the sport package comes with 205/45/17's, 16's are the stock size, not sure on the exact dimensions

I was specifically looking for the lug pattern. I was wondering about the feasibility of running "s" wheels on my E30.

Do you know the offset as well? I imagine with the right spacing, these wheels would lookj really cool on my E30.
