I would perform a fuel delivery system test. Check fuel pressure, volume and quality. if not delivery, check power and ground to pump.

My cooper s r53, engine was running properly amd I changed the feul filter, and it started cracking and the engine didn't run anymore , now the mechanic says my fuel pump is no longer functional and I need to buy a new one, how true is that

You can check fuel pressure, volume and quality with a quality scan tool. Testing things will always help you diagnose an issue before placing parts.
