I have recently purchased a 2003 Mini Cooper. I am changing the oil and ran into a problem. The oil filter housing is the earlier style with the spring and the cage. I bought a new filter element that was supposed to be for the 2003 Mann HU 816/2x and it doesn't fit over the cage. It looks like the filter element is for the new style housing no cage/spring. I can't figure out what filter I need to use - all the parts sites I have looked at seem to only specify the new filters. Help! I need to find the filter that fits the old style housing. Thanks.

You can remove the spring and cage. Later filters have the cage built into the filter. Give The Pelican Parts parts specialists a call at 1-888-280-7799. They can figure out what part or repair kit you need.
