my 2011 r57 is putting on the EML and going into limp mode sometimes , the car losses power until the light goes off again , there are no other symptom's , car starts perfectly and never dies out,,,, question please , I had a live data link connected to my mini giving me the actual fuel rail pressure , at idle its about 700psi at a mid range rev its about 1500psi so should be about right ? but when my car puts on the eml and you get the error on the screen low engine power return to service etc etc the actual pressure drops to 300psi and at a mid rev it drops further to about 60psi !!!!! is this the ecu restricting fuel rail pressure forcing limp mode or is this the pump failing ?? thanks

the code was P0087
since I asked this question things have been fixed now !!
my local mechanic would not commit to saying it was the HPFP incase it wasn't it , he had tried everything he could think of (checking fuel lines , removing pumps from the fuel tank, checking injectors etc) I booked the car in with the local bmw/mini dealer and paid them to run a diagnostics with their computer , it came back that it was the HPFP faulty , they were able to run more tests then to eliminate anything else that could be affecting the results but they were happy to give me a print out saying it was defiantly the pump , I went and bought a new pump and got it fitted and the car has never looked back , yes it cost me a few ££££ but at least its sorted
as I'm in the uk there is no recall on the pumps and I tried to see if they would help with the cost but the answer was no
also just for info for anybody else with the same problem , all the posts I have read on the internet giving symptom's of the HPFP being faulty mine was completely different , my car was never hard to start , it never died out , it never misfired , these were the common symptons I got on the internet so this was why I was not sure as mine just went into limp mode now and again with loss of power , thanks
