Hello, I replaced the part of the brake switch where the plug connects to the four pins. I did not replace the part that seats into the metal bracket as it was too hard to remove. Is that part that goes into the metal bracket required to be replaced, to work with the other part of the assembly? My brake lights still stays on when the car was turned off.

Yes, the part in the metal bracket has teeth that grab the adjustment splines on the new switch. I would replace it.

Brake Light Switch

I will do that since it is what you suggested.

Can you explain to me how the brake light switch works? I ask because I don't see any mechanical interface other than those splines, and then it just looks like a 4 pin connector. Is there some magnetic going on, interfacing with those splines or pressure sensor somewhere? It would be very helpful to understand. Thanks!
