Battle of the sexes
So just for fun, a less than half hour video of Siming Chen vs. Efren Reyes. Just a short race to 3 exhibition match. Not really, but sorta a "battle of the sexes". Efren is on anybody's list of the greatest rotation pool players of all time. In his late 60's now, his game has slipped. But still a man highly regarded and honored in the pool world, as much for his personality and class as his playing ability. Pool is a national sport of the Phillipines. Many great players are from there. This part of his farewell tour...
Siming Chen is currently ranked as the best female rotation player on the planet. A product of Chinese "factory training". You name the sport or game, the Chinese Government supports promising talent. You can see the results in her classic stroke. So, on with the show. Even those here who ever put quarters in a bar table should be able to appreciate the talent on display. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZacfMRp8M3g

I know as much about pool as I do about Cricket, not much.
Of all the "sports" or really games people play with balls, I am surprised women are not as good as men. It does not take upper body strength or physical strength above the average person. Why are women any less able to pay at the same level as men? Is there any reason women don't play a game of pool as well as men? That is an honest question.

Did you watch the video? Trust me, very few men players would want to play her with rent money on the line. I'm thinking she may have missed that 7 in deference to Efren. 10 ball, same basic game as 9 ball, with a ball added. Balls must be struck in numerical order. Combination or carom shots okay. Not as easy to make a ball on the break as 9 ball, where pro players have pretty well figured out how to make the wing ball on most of the breaks. 10 ball is also call shot, while 9 ball is usually slop allowed.

Perhaps most women do not want to hang out in seedy pool halls

That's not saying players don't match up with money in the middle of the table. But I do get the impression your image of "seedy pool halls" is more from a result of TV and movie images than real life experience. You think golf is more pure because the gambling action takes place in beautiful outdoor settings? (edit) Perhaps if you find yourself in N. Dakota you'd enjoy slumming in this seedy pool hall: http://www.fargobilliards.com/ Looked up Siming Chen's Fargo rating...she's ranked 28th in the world. That's for either sex.
