How many of you do not have fun cars right now ?

Do you miss them ? big regrets ? l How long has it been ?
As per my other thread, I may need some cash.
Im thinking about selling the whole shebang, mabye keep my 911 ( first Porsche ) , my 220k rusty silverado, and my 1 thousand dollar x3 that I picked up over the winter, and turning the rest of it loose. maybe some tractors, and dirt bikes too. Who knows .
I might grab up a used accord, or camry or something, just to have a dead reliable car, that is good on fuel.
If I land this place, I will only be traveling 1 mile to work, I may even pedal it when its nice out . We also, probably will not travel much for a year or 2, so I don't need a fleet of cars anymore
I sold it all when I bought my shop,and went about 5 years without anything but my broken 911 , and a grey s 10 with a green door, and taligate, that I bought for $100.00
When I look back, it was worth it.
Once I got myself situated, I jumped right back in wth both feet .
Think Ill get bored with a rusty pickup, and a camry ?

It is my view that the rusty pick up may satisfy in ways similar to a sports car.

I have three fun cars. About a year ago I picked up a 5 speed Honda Fit. The fun cars sit in the garage most of the time now.
The Fit hauls anything, is comfortable driving, and quite sporty for its engine.
I'm thinking of selling at least two of the fun cars now.
If getting a Camry or Accord...a stick would be more enjoyable..imo

To answer your question, I still have a fun car in the garage that quite frankly, needs to be exercised more than I have been doing lately.

I have zero. Sold the XKE. Sold the 911S. Don’t regret either sale as I was just not driving them. I don’t miss the maintenance and attention they needed. My lifestyle right now means I just would not get to drive them enough so I thought they should go. When circumstances change (I.e when I move to the country) I will pick something up. Right now I’m wrenching on motorcycles

I'm in the same boat. Career change may dictate selling the '69 911E. I will miss it if I sell but like others, I don't drive it that often. Another thought is that I'm not being a good caretaker of it anyway.

Still have the 996 as a daily but the '69 is special. I sold a '88 E30 M3 in 2006, regret and miss that one all the time. I had converted the gear box and diff to euro spec. Evo 3 front splitter, evo 3 front springs that lowered it by 10mm, evo air box. Sold it for about $8k and now can't find them and if you do they are 5 times more than that.

The thing that concerns me is now the market seems to have softened and if I sell I won't get top dollar and the money will go to pay things that a salary would otherwise pay. Timing. I also worry that I will never be able to replace it if I sell.

My guess is once the decision is rendered to proceed with this major project and the inevitable sacrifices are accepted, having a 'fun car' will drop off your higher list of priorities. It may even drop completely off all lists as the reality of what you've decided to do sets in.

recently sold all my daily drivers as well.. FJC and G35.

Picked up an 04 4runner off my sister with 230K on it and beating around in it. It's crazy how well Toyota's are made....still a pretty tight rig even with all those miles. The 4.7 V8 is a nice bonus.

The roads have gotten so bad these days it makes it hard for fun cars to be fun..

I curse the day I sold my 944.
I miss the Miata some but it was a bit uncomfortable for my old bones.

I currently drive an anti-fun car, a Nissan Versa hatch. It is tiny so super easy to park and drive through tight traffic.

Wife drives a Mazda Mini van, very useful but certainly not much fun to be had there (unless I could talk her into getting busy in there)

Wife wants to trade her Mazda in for a Hybrid, Kia makes a nice looking Hybrid SUV.

I want to trade the Versa in for something more interesting, leaning towards a 4-turbo Mustang... thou I would not rule out a used BMW.

Oh yeah, I occasionally surf craigslist for a rusty pickup so I don't have to borrow my brothers.

I tried it back in the 90s. Gave up drag racing, sold my Vette and bought a new truck. 6 months in I was tired of the truck. After about a year it was for sale. less than 6 months later I was back i a Vette. I will never make that mistake again. I currently have a Cayman S and an S10 with a V8 . Life is too short for slow cars.

My DD is a pretty fun car, (a well set up e-46 BMW 328Ci that drips oil) but I bought the fun car of my dreams a few weeks ago.. Still cant wipe the smile off of my face.. Every time I drive it, it's a pure adrenaline rush...

No dedicated fun car, but my Mazda3 hatchback is a fun daily driver. I'd like to pick up a 4x4 to get to some AZ hiking spots that require high ground clearance... been searching Isuzu Trooper, Honda Pilot, and Acura MDX ads.

My first car was a brand new Corvette that I bought in 1978. I've always had fun a car since, my Porsche habit started in 1981. So, I've always had fun cars and probably had more than most, at the height of my car insanity I had more than two dozen at once. I have also been ridden motorcycles my entire life, at the time I had that many cars I also had 15 or 18 bikes. About 10 years ago I started thinning the herd and I have it down to where I have only one car, a 2003 Audi S8, and the only bikes that I have left are restoration projects.

I was heavily involved in the car hobby, a long time PCA member, did tons of club events and autocrosses, I got involved in various endeavors associated with racing, I subscribed to every decent car and motorcycle magazine that you could get, had thousands of books in my library and spent endless time at races and nother car events, like those held in California in August. While it's not true to say my entire life revolved around cars, I was one of the biggest car guys you'll ever meet.

In short, I don't miss it. I've burned up too much money and too much time and neglected a lot of other interests that I have. I may get another sports car at some point, or I might not. I may buy another street bike, or I may just ride dirt bikes from here on out, or I may do neither and spend more time working on my golf game.

Only you can decide what you want to do. My sense is that you don't use the cars that you have all that much and probably wouldn't miss them. It's also true to say that if you change your mind and wanted another one someday, you could buy another one. Or maybe, you've had enough of driving a 930 and trying something completely different down the road would appeal to you.

I think you know the answer, have the courage of your convictions to go after what you want.

Interesting OP. I have a 1983 944 I bought new. It is a 64K mile car -. I'm 20 months away from retirement and I'm thinking of selling it when I retire. I'm a car guy but - I enjoy driving less and less.
