Back in the saddle again

We've got 1 car, my '08 Boxster S. It's my daily driver and a fun car. I drive it about 3 miles one way to work and back 4 days a week. Every couple of weeks we take a 60 mile road trip to the country to a dairy farm to get some milk, cream and butter. We did that today. I think over the past 4 years, I've put about 16k miles on it. Before that, I had a turbo miata, before that another miata and before that my old targa. I don't regret selling the targa at all, but I do dearly miss the ol' girl and will probably not have another air cooled 911 which is a real shame. They are very special cars. My boxster is great, but it's not as special as the 911 was. I hopefully, won't ever have a time when I don't have a fun car, but then you never know what the future will bring.

I’ve had the 930 33 years over half my life so it isn’t going anywhere. 356 27 years. I’m still having fun making upgrades on both. Making the switch this week to an electric tach instead of mechanical in the 356. Then full flow oil filter, then alternator instead of generator. Oh the modern world we live in

The thing to remember is the "fun car" takes time to enjoy (and maintain).
So if you have serious time gobbling endeavors ahead it might make sense to get some storage insurance on it and some Sta-bil in it. Well, when you've done it for 40 years and owned and driven everything that looked interesting to you, it's ceases to be as important as it was when you were young. If you have enough cars, like too much of anything else, it becomes a burden just to have them.

This. Cars can be work. Hard, dirty, hot, time consuming work. Sometimes you need to take a realistic look at what you put in vs what you get out, and if the math adds up.

I sold my 356 for a large stack of 100s.
Bought a 65 and 66 mustang for a small stack of 100s. So... Get rid of the 930 and buy a ~$10k fun car and still have plenty of cash left. Winner winner chicken dinner. ![]() |

I've got 2 50 cc scooters now, I can ride them to work !!! Hell, I can ride my kids xr 80 to work now if I want to. I think, first order, will be to get permission from the neighbors, and blaze a mountain bike/dirtbrike trail from my new front door to my shop .

For the first time in 29 years, I don't have at least one air-cooled 911. Sold my last one a few months ago.
I don't miss it at all. Partly because I didn't drive it much, and partly because I've had so many for so long, I've had my fill. That's also part of the reason I didn't drive it much anymore. But I still have a fun car, just not a 911. Not sure I'd like to be without any fun car. My definition of fun has changed, though. All of my 911s were either ultra low or relatively low (under 100,000 mile, usually way under), factory stock examples. I'm done with that, forever. If I ever get another one, it'll be a non-stock, non-original example. More fun, less worry, and I'm too old now to be concerned about keeping a car historically accurate for the next owner or future generations. |

That is/was my exact rational for buying a 82 SC Targa a few months ago...driver class, enough patina for a copper church roof, nothing special other than an open roof and me in it.

Well, I'm in the midst of doing a coil over conversion on my car. It spends most of its time disassembled while doing some project to it. I guess that's my lot in life as far as the car is concerned and somehow life doesn't seem complete without a project in progress. It's not the latest, greatest, fastest, most fantastic, but I get some satisfaction out of the anticipation of what it will be like in the latest iteration. However at my age, I'm determined to get it to a point where I just drive & enjoy it. Actually it's sort of gotten to the point there's not much else that can be done to it. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like without it, but those thoughts are fleeting. I won't be buried in it though.

i dont have a fun car at the moment.
i do have a fun motorcycle. i miss having a car. i am 99% sure my next project will be a 4x4. FJ40 or early Bronco.

Currently daily drive a triple black 2004 Mustang GT convertible which has a few mods, and 4.10 gears....lots of fun instantly. A guy is coming this weekend to polish/restore the paint on my white 944, which I will probably be placing on BAT (I like my convertible more). There were a couple of years where I drove my daughter's Saturn Sedan....I have decided that life is too short to drive boring sedans.
