Beat me to it. It looks like a Porsche VIN number.

This looks right except they have number 4 and 13 backwards?

Since the mystery was solved, I'm hoping I am not high jacking this thread!

I've always wanted to get more information on my little bucket of bolts, but never really could get much information.

I tried entering my Vin but I only have 10 digits, it requires 17.

Can anyone make it work and decode?

The first three are the 911 designation.
Next three are Year, E/T/S, and Coupe/Targa
(I can't read your numbers, and may have the order of E/T/S and Coupe/Targa mixed up)
The last 4 are unique.

My old car was a '71, T, Targa so it was 911111xxxx

911 = It's a 911 (verify visually, could be a VW)
4 = 1974
1 = Coupe
0 = G-model 110 kW
2190 = Serial number

An old post from the Tech side:

Your 9114103052 decodes as:
911 = Vehicle type, 911 group.
4 = Model year 1974.
1 = Engine type 911 (normal).
3052 = Consecutive chassis number.

The range for these VIN are 9114100001 to 9114104014 [Paternie] & [Barth].
These are the ‘Normal’ 911 coupes for 1974.
Other production are the 911S (911430xxxx) and the Carrera (911460xxxx).
The Carrera RS and RSR are in the series 9114609xxx.

The engines 6144370 / 6145233 decode as:
6 = Engine design, 6 cyl. eng.
1 = Engine type 911/92.
4 = Model year 1974.
4370 / 5233 = Consecutive engine number.

The range for these engine numbers are 6140001 to 6146625 [Paternie] & [Barth].
There is also the type 911/93 engine for the 911S and Carrera in the series 634xxxx.
The RoW Carrera and race engines are 664xxxx.

I think your engine type “911/12” may be 911/92. Inspect carefully.

When stolen, was the engine (-5233) stolen and when recovered another (-4370) installed?
It is not unusual for the cars to be mis-labeled on shop tickets.
Even some owners ‘re-badge’ their cars.
Ignore the gold decal on the engine fan housing strap. For these years, it was the same for all USA models.

Best,
Grady

EDIT
PS: Dave, soon I’m going to need to have “[Pateman]” as an ‘original source’.
