Not Bad for Detroit Krap
Hot new Camaro around the 'Ring..sent to me by an old drag racing friend.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4zSIVpVMaw&feature=youtu.be |
Me like.
This reminds me of the yellow bird video, where they are driving at "slightly" over the limit (and the gear shifter is where it is supposed to be). Some wheel screeching. Some "oh s$%" moments. Some of the newer hypercar stuff is almost sterile it is so fast and smooth. I like the feel of a "perpetually controlled wreck" |
That driver is fearless. Impressive.
|
Thought he'd lost it at the 5:10 mark..cojones gigantico!
|
Me thinks he has seen that track before...
|
That's awesome....who knew in 1969 one day there would be a Camaro that would run out 170 mph plus and handle a road course as well...
|
I’ll take mine in red with brown leather.

Another entertaining Ring vid. Great job with positive down shifting. Bill Wise...impressive. |
The ZL1 is 650 hp and lbft with a top speed of 190mph according to C&D. That was an impressive lap, but I'm a little surprised that the top speed wasn't a little higher on the straight at the end. Still, 172 is not slow by any means.
That guy has obviously been playing Gran Turismo or Forza or something like that. ;) I'd love to go drive around the 'Ring in just about anything, but if I did find myself there, I think I'd pay for a lap or two in the Ring Taxi. Now we need a video of a GT350R or whatever the ass kicking version of the Mustang is. |
Sadly, this was all that I found
<iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OJeqJh4-Qwc" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> THis is far more entertaining <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8xIzZEWpJew" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> This was as close as I could get. I guess this thing is down about 125hp over the ZL1, so you wouldn't expect it to beat the ZL1. Wow, 8k rpm. Yeah, I'd like to drive one, maybe even have one. <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9kPRxiOB48Y" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
526 Horsepower on the 350GTR..about 120 less than the Camaro...so the 7:32 sounds about right for the Mustang with the Camaro coming out on top.
Either one a track day thrill..for how much less than any European car capable of the same performance? |
There is a new GT500 due out very soon...the insiders have it at 700 plus HP but the haters will be here to shout it down as too this and not enough that. :(

After the Porsche 919 video, these look like elephants on meth.

You can and probably will see both of the "Ring video cars being driven on the street. Don't think you'll see a 919 there. Still, just for fun, here's the 919 video...yes, OMG fast! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQmSUHhP3ug So just a bit of apples/oranges by mentioning the 919? |
That trans am video it sounds like the driver is giggling after mild counter steer over the crest @03:30
|
Watch the same lap with the Ariel Atom Vs the Corvette and note how he doesn't struggle with the steering wheel as this Camaro driver does..just an observation.

It has been my observation that some cars give a lot of feed back that allow for very rapid steering input changes to hold the car at optimum, although heart raising these really perform and are very engaging. Then there are cars that you need lots of steering input because the car is setup such that you feel like you are fighting to control it. Both result in a lot of steering wheel movement, but one results in a happy driver, the other a frustrated driver. It is certainly easier to push a car hard when the car doesn't require as much of a dynamic steering input range. |
What is the purpose of paddles on the wheel when you have a manual shifter?
or What is the purpose of a manual shifter if you have paddles on the wheel? |
