I suppose they hacked a business that had my email and phone number?

CEOs need to see some jail time if they don’t do due diligence to secure their data and if they collect more than the bare minimum amount of data needed to do business with you, that’s my opinion and I bet things would get shored up pretty quick.

If they did this and had my business phone number, I would suspect they pulled the data from the US Fed govt contractors website. i get so much SPAM from that.

Actually, the ransomware guys are pretty ethical as far as slime goes.

They pretty much keep up their end of the deal because if they don't and it gets widely known then the gravy train is over.

It's twisted AF but their business relies in part on them being perceived as trustworthy.

If he had pictures of you, you would already know.

That's how extortion works.

I received a sextortion email the other day.

Hell, everyone already knows about me, what do I care?;)

They use fear as a tactic as it is a primal emotion. smart, but not smart enough. F them.

I've had a couple to my generic work email address.
It's amazing how wide spread this is and the capabilities they must have to send so many emails.
Obviously anyone in power in the world can't give a ratsazz about this or they would stop it.

Well, maybe, but , then no.
The thing is, the internet was designed to be flexible and workaround any kind of outage.

So It's not all that regulated. It's not meant to be restrictive.

Some of the countries do a slightly better job at blocking certain things.
But their efforts are offset by those countries that don't bother.

Think Russia, or certain African countries.

Unless the regulated countries would impose strict blockages of those lesser regulated countreis... Which would never happen as it would stop being the internet if they did.. But unless they did that.. Well, the unregulated countries are the weakest link.

And to be honest ,you shouldn't want the fully regulated internet.. trust me.
It exists you know.. it's called China.. where every packet of data goes through the Great FireWall of China..

So it's a balance... Be free on the not entirely regulated internet, where you have to at least pay some attention.

Or have a dumbed down, restricted version of it.

^^^ Good points.

I do find the emails amusing.

One of mine actually posted a password that was used by someone that worked here 10 years ago.
