Anyone else getting Extortion Emails

So, I received an extortion email referencing a password I had used for Pelican, Rennlist and other forums. Extortionist wants Bitcoin.... blah blah blah.

I am IT savvy and run malware tools actively. Claims to have video of me visiting adult sites and doing things visiting those sites. Well,

1. That would be boring if it happened.
2. Is the I'd Hit It thread here an Adult Site... LOL

I am worried about the password being compromised but truth is it is probably just floating around on the dark web. Anyone else get an email like this one -

Quote:

Let's get straight to the point. I'm aware <snipped> is your pass word. More importantly, I'm aware about your secret and I have proof of it. You do not know me personally and nobody employed me to examine you.

It's just your hard luck that I stumbled across your blunder. In fact, I actually placed a malware on the adult videos (sexually graphic) and you visited this website to experience fun (you know what I mean). When you were busy watching video clips, your internet browser initiated working as a Rdp (Remote control desktop) that has a keylogger which provided me accessibility to your display screen and also web cam. Immediately after that, my software obtained all your contacts from your messenger, fb, and email.

I then put in more time than I probably should've looking into your life and made a two view video. 1st part displays the video you were viewing and other part displays the video from your web cam (its you doing dirty things).

Honestly, I am ready to forget about you and let you get on with your regular life. And I am about to offer you two options that may accomplish that. The two options are either to ignore this letter, or simply pay me $1900. Let us examine above 2 options in more detail.

Option 1 is to ignore this mail. Let us see what is going to happen if you take this path. I will certainly send out your video recording to all of your contacts including members of your family, colleagues, and so on. It will not help you avoid the humiliation your self will feel when relatives and buddies discover your dirty details from me.

Option 2 is to pay me $1900. We will name it my “privacy charges”. Now let me tell you what happens if you choose this path. Your secret remains your secret. I'll destroy the recording immediately. You keep your lifetime as if none of this ever occurred.

Now you must be thinking, “Let me call cops”. Let me tell you, I've taken steps to ensure this mail cannot be traced to me and it won't stay away from the evidence from destroying your daily life. I'm not looking to steal all your savings. I am just looking to get compensated for time I put into investigating you. Let's hope you have chosen to generate all of this disappear and pay me the confidentiality fee. You will make the payment via Bitcoin (if you don't know this, search "how to buy bitcoins" in google search)

Amount to be sent: $1900
Bitcoin Address to Send to: <snipped>
(It's cASe sensitive, so copy and paste it)

Tell no-one what you will be utilizing the Bitcoins for or they might not give it to you. The procedure to get bitcoins can take a short time so do not wait.
I've a specific pixel within this message, and right now I know that you have read this email message. You now have 2 days in order to make the payment. If I do not receive the Bitcoin, I will, no doubt send your video recording to your contacts including members of your family, coworkers, and so forth. You better come up with an excuse for friends and family before they find out. Having said that, if I receive the payment, I will destroy the video immediately. It is a non negotiable one time offer, so kindly don't ruin my time & yours. Time is running out.

I am not saying Pelican has had a data breach but I'm being targeted with a password used on RL, Pelican and other forums. IF you get one of these and the password id yours from here, I think it makes sense to share with others that there is a breach.

Not a fan of the bottom feeders of the world.

RRico 07-16-2018 10:31 AM

yes, a few times a week.
but not the password portion.

legion 07-16-2018 10:36 AM

Tell him to go **** himself with a lit acetylene torch.

legion 07-16-2018 10:37 AM

Better idea:

Tell him that if he releases the video, it will be more embarrassing for him, as his mother was in the squirrel costume.

URY914 07-16-2018 10:46 AM

You better pay him because I don't want to see that video of you posted here on PPOT.

malmos911 07-16-2018 10:56 AM

Same format, option one, option 2 etc. appears
To be written by the same slug. The letter was post marked Nashville Tenn.

Ohhh...sexual blackmail. If anyone had an old X rated video of me, I'd ask for extra copies...so I could send 'em to my buddies. Man, that's a bunch cooler than having your car in a magazine.

So you did X rated videos.

reachme 07-16-2018 11:44 AM

If you pay them, do you really think they will actually go away?

All this is is an attempt to extort you with a bare minimum of knowledge about you. Change your password. Then either ignore the e-mail or mess with the sender. Don't pay him under any circumstances.

svandamme 07-16-2018 12:44 PM

no, only have em in my sent box, not my inbox

svandamme 07-16-2018 12:45 PM

crap that was supposed to be my inner not outer voice

Add that's Tabs at the end of the leash?

cstreit 07-16-2018 04:43 PM

Tell 'im you're an adult film star and thank him for the free advertising.

flatbutt 07-16-2018 04:50 PM

So far I've only gotten the one stating that the cops are after me.

RKDinOKC 07-16-2018 05:40 PM

Ask if you can get a copy of the video.

sc_rufctr 07-16-2018 05:48 PM

I've been lucky. Years ago my Ebay account got hacked but Ebay shut it down before anything happened.
I'm guessing they have monitoring software that can detect unusual account behavior.

As soon as I got the notification from Ebay I changed all of my passwords. (more than 20)
I store them in a text file which is secured in an app.

Why?

He has this guys email. BFD. My spam account has 3 of these from today already. If I changed my password every time one came in I’d be up to password352 or so...

I’d like to believe your claim but Tabs says that was him too.

Oracle 07-16-2018 07:08 PM

Its called sextortion.. and that exact same email has been floating around.
And no.. they have nothing on you..

All they have is a password from a website they hacked and if you happen to have that password across all sites,we'll you're really in a bad place..

Don't worry, the browser thing is a complete lie.

Change your passwords and ignore those hackers.. I wouldn't try and play with them.. they have a valid password, so don't get stupid and piss them off.. Just saying.

red-beard 07-16-2018 07:10 PM

Apparently, I only get death threats. But they are open about it...

Bill Douglas 07-16-2018 07:28 PM

I guess I'm not interesting enough to get this sort of email :(

Esel Mann 07-16-2018 07:43 PM

Lets see....
OP join date 2012, check 1,
OP post count of 3, check 2,
OP topic involving compromising proclivities plus the shop where you bought the equipment, check 3.

Hmmm. I wasn't aware the Treasury was printing $3 notes.

Yeah, not me either...yet. Frankly, it's about time to disconnect from the cyber world. What does it offer? For me it's some shopping on Amazon and some forums. I pay only 2 bills online and not every month. I don't need it. I would never, NEVER, do one single operation on my cell phone! I call and I text. I don't read my email or do anything else. I have maybe a dozen times used the browser and it sucks so bad that I can easily wait to get home and use the computer.

Don Ro 07-16-2018 07:51 PM

I don't answer phone calls from #'s I don't recognize.
Recently got two left messages the same day telling me that I was in major trouble with the IRS. I needed to call back immediately to clear up the issue...or else.

LOL! A friend told me of getting those. Irony. He works for the IRS.

I posted one of those a few years back. It wasn't even a person. Someone use a computer generated voice. Sounded like Steven Hawkings was scamming me.

GH85Carrera 07-17-2018 06:17 AM

I got the phone call that my computer contacted Microsoft and has a virus. He was going to help me. I just played stupid. After 10 minutes of trying to get information from me I told him that for me to go to the web link he wanted me to go to I would have to hang up and dial my modem as I only have one phone line.

The IRS called me and as well as the Sherif's department. The IRS guy said the agents were on the way and unless I bough a Walgreen's gift card and told him the number I was going to be arrested. I just laughed and told him to bring the best SWAT team because I was gong to make the Branch Davidian's raid look like a walk in the park.

Zeke 07-17-2018 07:28 AM

The extortion letter made the Times today:

Los Angeles Times

Tobra 07-17-2018 08:50 AM

So what sort of porn were you checking out? It was this wasn't it, you sick fuch

911 Rod 07-17-2018 09:16 AM

This is the same extortion method I watched on Black Mirror just a couple of days ago.
Chicken or the egg?

Vipergrün 07-17-2018 10:27 AM

From what I can gather, based on the information in my extortion email, the data they have is likely from the LinkedIn breach.

Don Ro 07-18-2018 09:34 AM

Just rec'd another left phone message yesterday. About how my computer will be shut down, never to be useful again until I call them back.

As some have said I guess my porn rep doesn't evoke any blackmail attention.

However the good old IRS calls almost every year with threats... well, at least a bot claiming to be the IRS, threatening financial ruin if I don't send money.

rwest 08-14-2018 04:51 PM

So, I just got the porn email extortion and here’s the disturbing part; they listed my area code and last 4 digits of my home phone number.

I suppose they hacked a business that had my email and phone number?

CEOs need to see some jail time if they don’t do due diligence to secure their data and if they collect more than the bare minimum amount of data needed to do business with you, that’s my opinion and I bet things would get shored up pretty quick.
