Cheap (under $2000) fun cars
Just bought a '99 Isuzu Amigo (same as 2 door Rodeo)
$1000, everything works. Soft top a little rough but I picked up a hardtop at a NJ 'junkyard' for $75. 1st car I ever owned that had no dipstick for the auto-transmission. Had to check/fill from underneath. Wanted something different to drive for the summer.

My son's buddy just picked up an 03 Jetta GL, manual, 2.0 for $400.
It was "lightly" hit in the front. (Hood, grill, bumper, headlight). He has a parts car that we were able to pull everything he needed off of, except some brake parts, an exhaust clamp and a hood latch. It runs surprisingly well. A/C works. Radio is loud.

1989-1997 NA Miatas are still my go to! Although in CA it's harder to find good examples now for cheap.
