What the hell, Steve. That's my car...sold it to a kidney transplant Dr. who lived in Beverley Hills.
I guess he sold it to this owner.
Somewhere about 180 - 210 were brought in...Sun International, in LA, was big into them.
I recognize my speakers/tweeters in the door panels and gauges down where I put my radio. Can't see the variable boost control knob on floor boards.
But sure as hell...that's my ex.
I sold it for $28,000 about 15 years ago...Dr. had a hard time swallowing that price.
Bought it for $21,000.

PS Yeah, a collector...his "man" came up to the Bay Area and mounted it on their flatbed. Driver told me all about the Dr.'s collection. Amazing.
I called the warehouse about six months later with some info and the "man" (driver) answered. Said the R5T2 was the doc's fav. car...so far.

Maybe you can pay with a kidney? I recall these when new. Cool as hell. But not 60k cool ...

That “8221 chassis” was one of the cars that Renault had set aside for possible future race...with aluminum roof and a larger displacement engine. Not one of the usual homologated T2 cars.
2,000 lbs. with 210 hp.
The quickest car I've owned from 20 to 100. It would quiver with acceleration.

I took it into Dinan for some reason, can't remember. Steve said he was impressed with the layout.
Yeah, Paul, it was a hoot. Not bad for a little push rod engine.
A common comment from passengers was something like, "Oh my God!" and "What IS this thing?"

This one was my second one...first one was red, but not the 8221 chassis. I ran an off ramp too hot and hit a street lamp post head on. It didn't budge.
Only knee bruises...and some personal beat up. I was a damn fool when younger...trying to be somebody, I guess.
Kept a car cover on it in the garage...couldn't look at it.
Sold it to a guy (don't remember his name) in NY for $6k.

BTW, I think I sold this black one more than 20 years ago...bad memory.
I had some aftermarket wheels on it...gave the OEM's to the Dr. with the car.

There were folks on this board that opined that SC's would never increase in value: "Too many". When I bought my 964 I was told I'd never get my money back.

On and on. I have never lost money on a specialty car after driving them, a lot.

YOU drove it, Don, that is all that matters.

All looking for a place to hide it. Sometimes feels like the hobby is passing me by, because I'll be damned if I see the value in what many cars are selling for.

Wow- who would have thought that was actually your car! You know I post them every few months to tease you- so this time struck gold. Hard to imagine they're up to $125K. I remember they were pricey at around $20-30K. Unique car- that's for sure. I bought and sold a regular one in the mid-80's for $900. It was okay- soft and goofy.

Can I join the club? I bought and sold a '69 Z28 that was in great condition, except it might have had a hot-rodded 283 in it. Or I decoded the numbers wrong. That 283 was super fast though- kept up with a friend's '70 350 w/4.11 gears. I had 3.73s.

Closest I'll ever come to owning a Turbo2 was when I owned a 1.1 poverty spec R5, could get 85mph downhill with the wind behind me and it felt like it was only a few degree's from tipping over when cornered hard.

Accidentally set it on fire, 1ft tall towering inferno coming up from the carb while the engine was running. A couple of saucepan's of water eventually put it out,

Woeful car, never ran quite right after that, probably did myself a favour torching it :D

We just have to lower our standards a little. Instead of a really expensive sports car like a Porsche 911, we can still have fun with a lower performance car that is still cheap, like a VW van for example ;)

$125,000 doesn't seem out of place to me. These are far rarer than almost any 911 that sells in this $$ range.

I saw one race in 1982. Unfortunately, it DNF'd early on but it sure was fun to see and hear it buzzing around town in the snow before the rally started. Jean Paul Luc brought it over from France and did POR and the Reno International.

and what we are left with is the memories.
Sweet memories...and memories can only be a faint representation of what was once actual...real.
So, the lesson is to take a moment, be still, look around, and say to self, "I'm here. I'm alive right now. This is IT."

I was looking at 911s and R5 Turbo's when I was tiring of my Fiat in the late 1980s. Ended up with a SC. R5 Turbo sure would have been fun.

Until you wanted parts or tired of the poor design of parts like the door handles.
