Yes, that wall is vertical. The door is steel (with vents) and leads to a crawl space below our kitchen where he headed shortly after taking that picture. There’s a small gap between the steel door and the wall that he went through.

A very common and “good” snake around here. They eat rodents, and even other “not so good” snakes. Harmless to people, so we gave him a name and leave him alone.

We have eagle nests here within the blue heron nests.
Pretty cool.

Was up in Gresham, OR for two years...had a huge 50 acre meadow on the other side of a chain link fence.
Home owners had two Poodles who loved to play on the back yard grass.
You haven't lived until you've heard a family of Coyotes hoop and howl over a kill, like a band of drunken Indians.
Sounded like they were in the kitchen.
Every couple of weeks or so I'd reach for the .30 - .30.

There would be a fight but those talons are meant for business.

This fellow was looking into my pal's window in Asheville last month. It's a Rat Snake but they also are called Black Rat Snakes. When other posters refer to black snakes, are they one in the same? We don't run across larger snakes much in northern Ohio. We have them but mostly much smaller.

James Jr's head appears to have the same diamond-ish shape?

If I saw something like that climbing on my house or looking in my widow, I'd tell my wife "pack up your crap, we're moving".
