The Lotus 23b that grenaded the trans is white with red and blue stripes.

Eric,
I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet up with you. I got a little busy.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1535382875.jpg

Hi Ron, not a problem at all! I've been running on 9 hours of sleep since Weds, so I was a bit out of it. I tried to get to the starter stand, but wasn't sure how to get up to say hi, haha. I'll definitely see you for Rennsport though!

Kirt's huge crash on Thursday was horrifying to watch. I was between Turn 3 and 4 when I heard the crash and saw him roll 5+ times before landing down. Did you happen to see what happened? I'm assuming suspension unsettled over the turn, spun into the gravel trap and ended up getting airborne, but not sure. Good news is that they had external fixators attached to his feet, and he's supposed to be headed back to Michigan today or tomorrow for the start of the surgeries needed on his feet. Really hoping all the surgeries go great and he recovers quickly. This is really reminiscent of what happened to his brother Craig a while back too.

I did get a chance to meet with ted and had a nice chat with him these past few days though. Glad to finally meet you and check out the car. I've got a few from when you were on the track, I'll get to them soon!

Eric,
I was working Re-entry and can't see any of turn 2 from there. A good friend was at turn 1 and made the "Alert" call. He saw the car flipping over backwards. Very Scary! Spoke to some of the family on Saturday. Taking pictures from Start. Really nice people.

The "Williams Engineering" Singer. Note the aero over the rear window. Intended to take air from on top of the car and direct it to the ducktail to make it more effective

The new Bugatti from the Bonham auction

I've never been accused of being sentimental, but this story is kinda cool.

The guy borrowed money to buy a broken down car he couldn't afford when he was 24, learned to work on it and raced it, and ended up selling it 58 years later for just over $5 mil. this weekend at Monterey.

^^^ That's a pretty cool story Sammy, thanks for sharing it.

I posted some pictures in this thread over on the TalkEMount site:

Easy drive of a little over 300 miles for me and yes also on my bucket list.

Camped out back by the corkscrew a million years ago for a GP motorcycle weekend (Freddy Spenser).

I'm too old for the camping experience so will need to setup some kind of accommodations, not a big deal because I'm familiar with the area. Biggest problem would be to find someone to join me, my wife isn't into cars and my buddy who is unfortunately has become a heavy drinker.

Rtrorkt did you see the newest "racecar" Bugatti Dino that was revealed at The Quail? I'm not a fan
I also missed the Singer DLS at Laguna Seca. Too bad it was only there for one day. I would have loved to see it up close!

Mike, here's a quick unedited one of ya from my camera.

Fun Track.........

I had the opportunity to drive the Laguna Seca track for about an hour several years ago. I was in a Porsche Boxster and my son had a 911. In spite of the hp difference, I was able to stay on his tail for most of the time. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Any links to the incident? External fixators are good news only in that they did not have to amputate. :(

Ron and Eric thank you for visiting, we enjoyed your company in the pits.
Ron thanks for all your great work as Starter.:cool:
My crew chief Matt took a bunch of photos, when they are ready I will share them.

I felt our 44 total GTO/GTP race car group was well behaved with 8 full uninterrupted sessions.
No oil downs, no broken cars on track, no black or red flags, lots of blue and yellow passing flags.
Next year at Reunion the IMSA race cars are the featured marque.
Perhaps next year the GTP cars will have their own run group.
A 50 car GTO/GTU race field would be exciting.

We raced 2 weekends and 8 sessions with no car issues.
It was an amazing week of race car reliability. :):)

Here is the Sunday final, clean but short as the event had gone over so we only got 5 laps.
My buddy Lee in the Coke 962 was tuning for Rennsport.
I think that's Gunnar ripping past me in his black 962.

The morning race was much longer at 14 laps and 8 gallons fuel.
Only had 2 gallons left after the longer race, video of that a little later.

Our next historic GTO race will be at Long Beach grand prix with 34 IMSA GTO cars.
Photo of the #10 flying ;) at Long Beach back in the day.

Yikes... good thing I didn't google external fixators. I knew it was bad but didn't know how bad.

His brother posted these two updates. Haven't heard any new updates on him yet... but hoping for the best.

Mike, tell Matt I said hello! He was kind enough to walk around the paddock with me and show me some of the GTO and Trans-Am cars in the field. Learned quite a bit. Maybe I'll be able to go racing in the class sometime down the line :D

RonDent 08-29-2018 09:38 AM

Mike,
I'm sorry your session was so short. I was told I had to give the leader the checked no later than 4:45. When all was said and done I had you guys checkered with 8 seconds to spare.

See you at Long Beach! Oh wait are you coming up for Rennsport?

Eric,
See you at Rennsport?

ted 08-29-2018 10:25 AM

Eric will do!
I've had 5 different crew chiefs since 2012 and so far Matt and I seem to really have bonded well. :)

Ron thank you for maximizing our race with the time allowed. :)
By the end of the Sunday (or rather the end of the week) a short race was fine imho. ;):D

Yes we will be spectating at Rennsport with a PCA corral pass for our just restored turbo look.
Looking forward to seeing you guys at Rennsport!:cool:

Mike,
Well you know where I'll be.

Eric at Pelican Parts 08-29-2018 11:54 AM

Ron,
I will be at Rennsport. Looking forward to catching you then!
