So who else is going to Monterey Car Week?
This is one of my favorite weeks of the year! I'm sure a lot of you guys are going to be there as well. I'll be heading to Monterey late on Tuesday the 21st or Wednesday the 22nd. I kept my schedule pretty free this year, just going to Werks, a winery, Exotics on Cannery Row (possibly) and Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
I know RonDent will be at a booth during Motorsport reunion, so I'll be stopping by to say hi. Anyone else coming up? What are your plans? |
I would love to go, and it has been on my bucket list for awhile....it's the 2000 mile trip, and hard to find accomodations, that are holding me back. Hopefully in a few years when I retire.

The small car show is good fun.
And the Pebble cars can be seen in the mid day of the tour day as they stop in Carmel for lunch. They do attract a big crowd. But are cool to see in the real world. Rolling sculpture Those vintage race weekends at Laguna Seca are outstanding! I stayed at the track in my motorhome for the ten days of the total event a couple of years ago. Worked out great. Lots to do with out dropping the big bucks at pebble etc. Get us some pics. Cheers Richard |
Very few race tracks can match the cool temps at Laguna Seca in August.
20+ degrees cooler than San Diego. We'll be racing at Pre Reunion and Reunion. Drop by our pit for some bench racing, shade and a seat. Plan is to explore/mountain bike around the track and campgrounds between race weekends. I only want to be at the track, nothing else matters. ;) In car video from a couple years ago at Reunion. :) https://youtu.be/ai7FNGvcOo8?t=6m35s http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534428667.png http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534428688.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534428749.jpg Race car has been in the trailer for 2 weeks. Steve said it best. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534428818.jpg |

Eric, Mike,
Yes I'll be there as you said. I'll be in the Starter stand this weekend (Pre-Reunion) and Next weekend for the Reunion. I'll come by and say hi when I get the change. Unless your on track during my break.
Mike, Don't forget, you're invited to the works social after the track goes cold. |

Traffic is really bad, but I am thinking about going to Werks Reunion at least.

I'll be heading up to my brother's place (Morgan Hill close) on Monday morning if all goes to plan.
We're going cheap this year and only doing the 'freebie' events. We'll be working on cars on the days we don't go to any events. I have a camera or two but don't have a lot of film. |

Tuesday, August 21st: Concours on the Avenue, which is held in downtown Carmel, is a great way to start the week. The show is free, and it draws an abundance of hi-caliber entrants. After the concours, there's also the Classic Motorsports Monterey Kickoff Cruise-In starting in downtown Pacific Grove around 3pm. Free to participate and/or attend. Wednesday August 22nd: The Little Car Show in Pacific Grove is a free event. You'll see a lot of cool pint-sized vehicles, micro-cars, and other offbeat stuff. Thursday August 23rd: Wanna check out many of the Concours d'Elegance entrants for free? The Tour d'Elegance lets you see many of the cars that'll be on the fairway in Sunday's Concours actually driving on the open road. And they'll all be parked in downtown Carmel for a couple of hours on their lunch stop if you want to see them up close. Friday August 24th: Legends of the Autobahn is great event for fans of BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi. Just pay $20 for parking and you're in. Same deal for checking out only Porsches at the Werks Reunion. The Pacific Grove Auto Rally is open to anyone with any kind of car. The eclectic group of entrants begin staging in downtown Pacific Grove around 1:00. You can also plant yourself along the rally route and watch the parade go by. Free for spectators. Saturday August 25th: The Concours d'Lemons is held at the city hall in Seaside from 8am-1:30. Some of the wackiest cars you'll ever see and it's free for spectators. The Concorso Italiano wraps up in the early evening and all the exotica leaving the event is a sight to behold. Nice soundtrack too. A good place to watch from is on Gen. Jim Moore Blvd. near McClure Way. On Saturday night, cars in the RM Auction can be seen in front of the Portola Plaza hotel in downtown Monterey, where they line up before crossing the block. Russo & Steele Auctions will have their cars staged on Fisherman's Wharf. There’s plenty of fine restaurants and bars to enjoy some food & drink in the downtown area too. There are also exhibits and displays set up in the area around the lodge in Pebble Beach. These are all free, but you'll need to pay a $10.25 entrance fee to get into the area. |
That's a good list!
There's also Exotics on Cannery Row on August 25th from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Cannery Row gets taken over by exotic cars... tons of hypercars and supercars show up, along with some concept cars. It gets filled up quick with people so get there early if you're interested in these kinds of cars. I'd find street parking two hours beforehand, grab a bite to eat, and then take a look at the cars. Monterey Bay Aquarium is right there too, if you want to spend the morning there first. |

It was explained to me that Summit Point was a party where I race broke out. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534474342.jpg |
I've found this guide to be useful in the past.

Well, if this passed weekend (Pre-Reunion) is any indication of what the Reunion is going to be like, you're going to want to go.
I was lucky enough to be Point Starter for the Formula 5000 practice 41 care, Formula1 Practice ~ 20 cars and the Can Am cars. Only about 10 of those. Some 300 entries in all. This weekend will be more. Short week for me. Back to the track on Thursday for testing. Sorry no pictures this time |
My guys made it out for pre-reunion Saturday, and had a transmission blow up on the second lap... fun times!
I'll be driving up late Tuesday to spend some time with my goddaughter and attend some pre racing festivities. See you sometime this week Ron! |
Eric,
What were they driving? I remember seeing a couple of older Porsche based cars setting in pit lane during their run groups. I saw Mike (ted) running out there. Was doing well in his group. I think he was starting 6th yesterday. |
One was the Lotus 23b that grenaded the trans, and the black/gold Datsun Fairlady.
|
I am definitely going to Werks Reunion...
