"Ozark "on Netflix as compared to "Better Call Saul"

Anyone watching? It's lighted and shot to look washed out and bleak, and there is a pretty high level of violence. Some unsavory characters, like the hillbillies and the FBI guy...not even to mention the cartel... It's interesting to see Jason Bateman in a roll like this after Arrested Development. You kind of feel for his character, but he ends up doing a lot of bad things to keep himself and his family from ending up as fish food.
I wonder if they'll have a third season....

(If I'm honest, I prefer my televised violence, mayhem and suspense more along the lines of Better Call Saul, where once in a while they throw in a character like the baseball card guy to inject a little bit of levity into a really dark world...but Ozark does show plenty o' boobs at the strip club, so put that one in the W column)

I loved the first season of Ozark and I'm happy to see that season 2 just posted. I haven't seen Better Call Saul.

For anyone interested, Ozark is about money laundering, cartels, and has lots of violence but is really good. It's one show where your hooked after the very first episode and since there's not too many episodes you can binge watch the whole season in a day.

hcoles 09-07-2018 04:54 PM

We (wife and I) like Ozark (now working through season 2) but it seems to be approaching being too drawn out. However, lots of good acting and we are still enjoying it.

I like BCS more but it could be because I haven't seen episodes lately.

This probably wasn't much of a helpful contribution.

Frankly, it wasn't much of an original post. Sort of rambles and doesn't really have a point, except for the headline. Who started this anyway?

I am a fan of Better call Saul been watching it seen season one.
Ozark is new to me, the trailers look good.
Gotta put it on my list.

MMiller 09-07-2018 06:12 PM

Iv'e been watching both and while I'm a huge Bateman fan and have enjoyed Ozark, it has "jumped the shark" a bit for me in the second half of season 2..

Better Call Saul I enjoy more, better story for me and I enjoy the local NM setting. I think Ozark has better acting, its a really good cast in my opinion.

Both are fun in their own way..

I rank Ozarks ahead of Better Call Saul. Better story line, better acting, way more boobage (*including a lot you really don't want to see)

Better Call Saul needs more of Mike, and less Saul. In fact I would prefer a series about Mike.

URY914 09-08-2018 08:25 AM

We used to watch BCS but stopped after awhile. Now watching Ozark season 2 and really like it. You really have no idea what may happen from one minute to the next. Bateman does a great job. His wife also. There are probably people like this out there somewhere.....

tcar 09-08-2018 03:36 PM

Yeah, but how does "Ozark" compare with "Justified"... a fantastic series.

URY914 03-28-2020 06:56 PM

Season 3 just released. Watching now.

Good pal and I were into it watching at shop. I think we were into season 2 and he abruptly passed from a heart attack Dec 2018. In his bed, not in the shop.

We did like the characters and they took some pains to build them. I did not like the daughter but I did not like Skyler White, either. I think they build them that way.

Might jump back in tonight. I did watch the Fangio movie last night and saw they were pushing Ozark.

Baz 03-29-2020 09:54 AM

Just signed up for Netflix to see what the fuss is all about.....

trader220 03-31-2020 03:40 PM

Started season III of Ozark today. Just finished binge watching BCS all seasons. Enjoyed em both. Looking forward to season II of Ozark.

blucille 04-01-2020 02:01 AM

I’ve been watching both. I feel like Ozark is drawn out...each episode seems like would be better if it was 10 minutes shorter.....lots of good content, keeps me coming back for more, but I find myself bored 3/4 of the way thru every episode....or so it seems

on2wheels52 04-01-2020 04:33 AM

It's filmed in Georgia http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/nono.gif

These series on Netflix seem to follow a general pattern. The initial season is full of twists, turns, titilating cameos of nekkidity, violence and some interesting character development.

By the time it gets to the third season (if it does) it's devolved into a soap opera mainly focused on the characters' relationships while the plots become too convoluted to follow and just not all that interesting anymore.

Well, said... I watched season 3 episode 1 and 2 yesterday and felt the same.... about 10 or 15 minutes too long.

When the young preacher with the newborn son was preaching in the town square and was escorted away by law officers - he was preaching in front of the La Cazeula mexican restaurant we periodically visit.

I find it amusing that people who like BCS would find Ozark drawn out. To me it's lightining fast compared to the glacial pace of all the BB/BCS series. I love both, but ozark has way more happening after the first few episodes... Almost done with S3 now, both are good and should be binged !

Watched the final ep od S3 of Ozark. WOW. it's not boring, at all...

Jeff Alton 04-04-2020 05:58 PM

Zero Zero Zero on Amazon Prime....

Just started Ozark, it is good too.

URY914 04-04-2020 06:25 PM

We finished S3 the other night.
WOW what an ending.
Didn't see that coming..

red-beard 04-06-2020 01:13 PM

I'm on the last Episode of season one. It toes the line...

NutmegCarrera 04-08-2020 11:52 AM

Love Ozark. Also loved BCS. Breaking bad was great - and almost think Saul was better. No spoilers on Ozark, please. I’m about half way through season III.

Love to hate the hillbillies - and Darlene is evil incarnate.

Wish I were creative enough to be one of those writers.

Neilk 04-08-2020 01:02 PM

Season 3 was incredible. Not looking forward to having to wait a year for season 4.

I can't believe the whole plane crash scene.

David 04-11-2020 09:07 AM

Season 2 was a bit of a let down but then came season 3. Just finished yesterday. Wow!

herr_oberst 04-11-2020 11:53 AM

Got Ozark and Zerozerozero on the quarantine watch list. Currently in the middle of Season 1 of Narcos (Pablo Escobar). Also, after 2 unsuccessful tries to develop an interest in Man in the High Castle, I've broken through and am in Season 2 - excellent, but a show that requires 100% attention - no net surfing while watching.

hcoles 04-12-2020 03:45 AM

Ozark is good. My prediction for ending of season 5 or 10? Ruth, Darlene and Wyatt and somehow Jonah walk away with the whole thing.
Starting ZeroZeroZero - seems pretty good.

NutmegCarrera 04-14-2020 08:33 AM

OKay-
Finished Ozark Season 3 the other night.
Pretty satisfying end to the season. Can’t say anything more.
REALLY looking forward to Season 4.

URY914 04-14-2020 10:03 AM

Can't say I'm going to miss the one that got taken out. ;)

I couldn't agree more. Very satisfying end to the season. I hope the next season delivers.

NutmegCarrera 04-15-2020 07:44 AM

Yup - I think her ex-husband probably appreciated a beat down in a parking lot as compared to having to deal with her on a daily basis. He got the better deal....

wilnj 04-15-2020 10:35 AM

Just started last night, I'm about 6 episodes in but will likely have to backtrack a little for stuff I may have missed dozing off as it got late.

But WTF is it with this filming in the dark? I stopped watching Walking Dead because it became the norm, never got into Game of Thrones because of it.

Is this just an aesthetic all of the DoP are copying from each other? Is it a budget thing?

I could not agree more.... I think it's cost cutting, poor effects, since we cannot see a thing...

With TV series no longer shooting and writers not having to do rewrites between episodes, I wonder if with their newfound time, we will get some great new seasons of shows once this Covid business goes away.

Yep, fresh writing, healthy athletes, new race car ideas. Heck, I'm even catching up on reports.

JackDidley 11-08-2020 11:39 AM

Just found Ozark on my Firestick last night. Watched the first 4 episodes. Way better than most of TV. Lots of crazyness. I like crazyness.

Season 4 of Ozark is now streaming.... great show. "Breaking Bad" in the Ozarks ?
Great cast and writing. The plot definitely thickens in season 4 ( which per the usual now is split into 2 parts. 7 episodes now then 7 more later.) Season 1 sets the background and story...

Cool! Thanks for the update and info, Jack. I had watched the entire series over a year ago and had to watch this refresher vid to catch back up on everything and where we ended......

Baz... I did the same re: watching that video or else would have been lost. Season 4 definitely is not a let down ! Enjoy..
