The pedal spacing was my only gripe with the car as well. However I fixed it in 17min & $70 with this

Hahah yea, was looking at something similar too! Next on the list would be to make the drive by wire more responsive.

Eric, my first nice car was a 1993 240SX coupe. Really great little car that took a ton of abuse from me as a teen, I put about 50k on that car and sold it to a friend of my wife's who put another 50k-ish on it before neglecting her oil and destroying the engine. I would LOVE a properly built Silvia replica with an SR20DET, the KA24DE was really the only low point of the car.

Jeez $50K on the S14? You've got me curious... what was done to it? I continue to piss away money playing with it, but I don't think I'm at 50k there yet. It's pretty much a KA25DET now. I went through three motors before finally building the bottom end and going to an AEM Series II. People said the headgaskets were the weakest points on the car... well boosting 25PSI on a pretty stock motor for almost a year, my factory headgasket had no issues. Piston #4 eventually had an issue though, the ringlands blew on it. I still drove around for a good year with 3 cylinders boosting, and these LS FD guys said my car felt just as quick as theirs. Pretty funny stuff :D Now that I look back, I had the option to RB26 it... I think that would have saved me a bunch more money if I did that back then.

^ 50 K miles not dollars!

I don't daily anything since I commute 'down the hall' but sometimes I am on the highway with commuters .. in my Miata or M3 & the other day I saw a guy commuting in his Abarth, I could tell he was having more fun than everyone else..

Yes miles! I was a poor kid, spending $50k on anything was the last thing on my mind! Now that I have the money I don't have the time, I would love to do a very high quality RB26 or SR20DET S13 build. The only thing that car lacked was an engine worthy of a sports car.

Agreed in principle, but it's so narrow and tall that from the back it looks like a pot of Yoplait yogurt on wheels. How about the Toyobaru FRS ? I hear you can buy a nice used one and turbo it for $5-6000

I'm putting 600 miles a week on my BRZ and its fantastic.

Plenty of scoot with the 200hp and 6 speed.

Part of the trouble is SE MI has no good roads for a sports car... its all flat and straight... make for fun driving for a muscle car, but little reward for momentum cars, plus winter makes RWD a hassle at times.

Not needed, unless you would tell someone with an air cooled 911 to turbo it.
The FRS has the identical power and weight as an SC/Carrera.

I live in fear driving my 911 for a $20K sound to rear it's ugly head.

.

You should sell the SC.

You don't enjoy driving it
(I agree that they can't compare to the precision of a modern car)
But, money seems to be a factor for you.
Sell it while the market is still strong.
Never own a car you don't like to drive.

I also swapped out a 2001 era car for the BRZ, b/c I wanted a dead nuts reliable DD.
How old a car are you willing to go for a DD ?

Money is a factor for you.
You want a newish DD.
You like fast.

Why don't you get a Mustang?
They represent an amazing value.

They are fast.
You can work on it.
You can upgrade it.
They are easy to find.

Geronimo 09-23-2018 04:32 AM

I currently DD a Alfa Romeo Giulia Q4 Ti. But honestly it is much less enjoyable than my Abarth was.

I think the biggest part is the lack of a manual trans. Thats why I am thinking about cars like the Golf R, Chevy SS, Abarth, maybe find a deal on an RS3, Focus RS, (if they fixed the issues), STi, but starting to shy away from the boy racer vibe, and I don't vape.

Turboing a BRZ/FRS makes a good car great, as is does to an SC. :)

Money is a factor for everyone, just depends on the number. lol

I would look at a Camaro over a Mustang, The LS is just a beast of an engine, as much as I like the stang. But I'd still rather the Chevy SS over both, rear seats and a trunk would be nice.

onewhippedpuppy 09-23-2018 06:00 AM

Have you driven a Camaro? The visibility SUCKS. Lots of performance for the money though.

The Mustang is a pretty good suggestion. For 2018 they introduced a Performance Pack 2 with the GT350 magnetic shocks, six piston Brembos, upgraded suspension and stiffer chassis, Torsten LSD, extra coolers, styling upgrades, Recaro, etc. Basically a budget GT350.

pavulon 09-23-2018 07:00 AM

Imo, snow is a deal breaker for DD'ing either and unless the Camaro is a convertible (and you enjoy them), the tank driver view is a non-starter.

Snow tires

Geronimo 09-23-2018 09:45 AM

I DD'd a Miata with snow tires, it was shockingly amazing in the snow. If I think I could do without "performance" on a daily I would consider a Toyota FJ, they are just so cool... maybe if I drove only in ditches it would be a fun DD. lol

slow&rusty 09-23-2018 12:08 PM

Best all rounder I've ever driven:

pavulon 09-23-2018 12:31 PM

I think we’re talking about different things because a Miata isn’t gonna go through real snow and an Evo is too low even with good tires.

slow&rusty 09-23-2018 12:49 PM

Evo's have proved themselves to be one of the most successful cars on the Rally circuit during the 1980s through the 2000s especially on the snow courses, in Colorado lots of daily driven Evos there.

At stock ride heights plenty of ground clearance to tackle snow:

I daily drove a 996 including a 10” snow with snow tires. The tires make a shocking difference.

Geronimo 09-23-2018 04:06 PM

Detroit Michigan, we get enough snow... the Miata did great! Snow tires are amazing....

Love EVO's I would never put one through a winter... to cool and nice to ruin.

Since bringing my 2018 WRX home 4 weeks ago, my 911 and my 2 930s have not left the garage...
