I can't get over how surgically precise modern digital steering systems are.
Total game changer.

Hey I have a unique and fun suggestion, how about you import something cool from Japan? It's something I'm going to try in the not too distant future, lots of cool stuff for not much money.

vash 09-24-2018 06:59 AM

Fun DD?

you all are going with handling and precision.

me? right now i want a vintage 4x4. early bronco,or FJ40. i am softening my wife's resolve with constant bombardment.

i think rattling around, top off (the truck, not me), flip flops..looking for local chicken tacos in a old, not perfectly restored 4x4 would be the ticket for me, at this point. sunday cruising.

Geronimo 09-24-2018 03:23 PM

If I get anything from Japan, it wouldn't be a daily, and it would be an R32....

Though a Kie truck would be amazing.

I think we might get my wife either a Tacoma sr5, or a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

I lean toward the Abarth still... just silly cheap fun with all the modern comforts. I will have to look at the Golf R, STi, and Chevy SS too.... Maaaaaybe a 2nd gen Toyota FJ Might have to take a look at the ATS-V Used they are a deal.

I have 5000 kms on it already. I like everything about it except for 3 things:

1. I can't get used to the clutch, it is very high.
2. I wish it had a higher first gear. It is geared low like an old RX7.
3. It is louder than I expected - road noise.

This thing handles amazing, better than my track cars. I haven't found its limits yet (which is good because its only been street driven).

If I want more power, its going to take a $650 Access Port tuner and I can get close to 300 HP. with a tune, pipe, and a cold air intake, I can get well over 300 HP.

In its stock tune, I am getting as good as 7.02L/100 kms calculated at the pump.

Underneath, it is well protected with lots of skid plates. It is remarkably well put together.

2 things occurred to me when I first got this car...

1. Why weren't the guys with STIs in my run group way faster? If they were anything like my WRX, they should have been a lot faster than my old air cooled 911s.

2. I have owned close to 75 cars in my life, why has it taken so long to get into a WRX?

I commute in my Honda Civic......but my daily driver ( weekends ) is my trusty 1992 Gen 1 Cummins, Dodge PU. Love this old truck.

That's a pretty compelling argument. I've never had a WRX but did have a Legacy GT wagon with a tune and the typical bolt-ons, it was a damn quick car that was nice to drive. My only knock with the WRX has been the cheapish interior, you're making me think I should take another look.

Geronimo 09-25-2018 07:19 AM

I had a 2000 Impreza with a full WRX swap 2760LBS with 280CHP... loved that car. Also had a 2002 WRX with a full STi swap, I think it was close to 400CHP....

I really should be looking at an STi. One of the best all arounders on the planet. I always thought a slightly lifted one would be an amazing b-road/gravel bomber.

I like my DD Bmw 120D, has 400 nm of torque, RWD

light, good chassis.. good brakes..

https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net...be&oe=5C2B181F

It goes like stink compared to most normal cars, other then Porsches & other more fancy expensive cars that is.
Usually I don't even bother downshifting to overtake, it has that much torque downlow

Hate to admit it, but this car I bought for $6500 is more care-free fun.

Nice, is it a 318is or 325is?

I have a 318is with a motor swap, no more valve adjustments, and it have been rock solid reliable. It was my wifes daily for 2 years until she had to start driving 100 miles a day then we got an EV.

It is in storage until things change and she can daily it again.

My buddy spent a tad more than you on his 318is but his is pretty damn cool. I present an S14 powered 318is.

LOL! I have never seen that before.

Does your car have a 4cyl or 6 cyl engine?

The white one above that my friend bought has a E30 M3 motor / transmission and rear end swapped into it. It is basically an M3 minus the flared fenders.

He now has a pair of E30's.

Another vote for the Focus ST, or RS. Both are fun cars. The RS is just "Extra" as the kids say.

I love mine. . . .but it may be for sale soon. (Looking to buy a new house).

This.

Not vintage, but my other DD is a 15-20 year old beater truck.
Some days, you just want a sloppy beater truck and no shifting.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the way I recall, the IS was only available in coupe form and equipped with the M42 (no valve adjustments necessary), though the 318i (sedan) did get the M42 in 91 only.

Nice to see 4ngie's old rig is doing well. I drove that car when it was for sale in my neck of the woods (before Rammstein's purchase) as a possible replacement for my IS.
