There are some truly tragic stories.

This one it seems everyone survived.

I notice this driver is staying steering right hard the whole time, no straightening of the wheel out to center or counter steer at all.

I think taking an example from China applies best to China.

The best thing is to go to a track with kart rentals first and see how friends handle that.

Then you'll know who has the ability to keep it on track vs those who don't.

Dad told me to never let anyone drive my vehicle.

Some people have said, why not? Insurance will pay for it.

Wow...I guess I'm weird. I let everybody drive my cars...nephews, B-I-L, S-I-L, neighbors, golf buddies. They're just material possessions, not friends or family. Most policies cover the driver who holds the policy.

Heck, there's at least four Pelicans I've offered my Turbo to when they are visiting SoCa. Not THATS crazy!

If you do it or you let your friend drive your car and he misses a shift with your clunky old 915 transmission Insurance won't cover the missed shift damage.

With all the new cars going to automatic transmissions with auto match revs on downshifts it appears my friends with new cars have forgotten how to shift.
The new cars with nannies and all have made poor drivers feel average.

I let my GT3 buddy drive my old 911 the other day and was not impressed.
I gave up instructing on the track and I'm not going to start instructing the basics on public roads to friends using my old Porsche.

I do have a nice driving simulator I will let all my friends drive, any car any track have at it.

Only my wife and friends who have P cars drive my car. Many have asked and have been told no. While the car is only a possession, a friendship is more valuable and can be seriously challenged when money is involved. Particularly the kind of money a lot of our cars are worth versus what we paid for them and invested thousands more to get them where we want them. IIRC, Hagerty covers only me and the wife as drivers. I do not want to get into a pis$ing contest with somebody's insurance over their current valuation and then, try to collect the difference between their value and market value from a friend. No, is much simpler.

Motorcycle? Sure, ride it but if you drop it, you own it is a lot easier as less $$$ is involved.

My friends don't ask to drive my cars and I'd not ask to drive theirs. Who asks to drive your buddies car anyway?

I used to let people drive my cars a lot more but after some extremely negative experiences, I'm over it. I don't like driving other people's vehicles either, it's just not a good idea, IMO, and I don't enjoy it.

There are exceptions for everything and I have friends who are excellent drivers or MC riders whom I trust completely, sometimes I want them to check out my new purchase or something and hand over the keys. But loaning vehicles is just bad policy. Nothing good can come from it.

When you own PU truck, inevitably people will ask to borrow it. This is not a big problem for me because mine is invisible. I park it 20 miles away on a ranch and rarely drive it other than to pull trailers or haul gravel or dirt. But when people do ask, I direct them to Enterprise which rents PU trucks and doesn't kill friendships. :)

I’m on the same page, heck I’ve let other people loop my car at autocross....

The only caveat I have is that I want to know they are comfortable with a stick, I’m not wanting to do a 20hr clutch change. :D

I let people drive mine, but I'm selective in whom I allow to do so.

That being said, I'm now more reluctant to drive other's cars that I used to be. When I was instructing, I used to drive student's cars all the time, but for some reason I have reservations now about driving someone else's cars, even on the street.

My '86 944 I am very free with providing I am a passenger and have some other running car as back up.

The only time I have let someone else drive the Z06 was for my dad to take my mom out for a day. Was a very nervous day. That entire day online I was getting advertisement for auto accidents lawyers. Didn't help one bit.

There are three friends I would let drive the Z06, beyond that, nope. Not even my brothers.

The Jaguar, I have let that one be used a few times by couples on their anniversaries. Have not let anyone that is single borrow it.

In specific, I do not want to let someone borrow/drive one of my cars on public roads until I've seen them drive myself and perhaps fixed many potential problems most drivers have.

I let 12 people drive my car just last night. No worries.

Did he lift off the gas too quickly, or perhaps jerked the wheel a little too much with a correction?

Bad enough what he did, but endangering the two passengers is unforgivable.

If a passenger in the rear seat simply shifted in their seat or crossed their legs at that speed it could have been enough to set off a series of events.

My two sons have both driven my hot rod '72 911 pretty extensively. But, then again, they helped me build it and have similar cars of their own (the older has a hot rod '79 SC and the younger a '68 912 that we converted to a 911 (with the 2.4 from my '72).

A few other really close R Gruppe buddies have driven my car as well. Even on a race track. I'm often driving theirs at the same time. It's fun to swap cars and compare notes with knowledgable friends, and both receive and provide feedback on our various setups.

Beyond that, however, the answer is always "no". As a few of you have already mentioned, the quirks of the 915 and the potential for damaging it or the motor are simply rule out anyone without specific experience.

Agree.
Not riding along while a driver is finding their limit.
Not going to track anyones car with anyone in it.
Very picky about giving rides at the track, rather not.
Want to see my line then follow me in your own car.

I share the driving if its a weekend trip to Laguna Seca and back.
That's just hours on freeways at 7mph over the speed limit.

I dunno. I let my family drive the trucks, cars. Not really an issue. They don't drive like *******s though. So chances of them doing something stupid in them is not likely.

I used to be very generous in letting anyone who said they knew how to handle a clutch drive my Carrera. Not any more. A cousin in law claimed he had track experience and had a manual Mini Cooper. I let him take it for a spin. He missed 3rd and did a 2-1 shift, shredding the clutch. He came back acting all huffy at me, claiming that I should have known that the clutch only had one shift left in it and refused to pay even half of the damage. It was an extremely unpleasant experience that I will not repeat.
