my wife got the dog's DNA tested. err..curveball.
at the adoption; we were told my dog was 50% Labrador and 50% Aussie Shepard.
well..... my dog is 37.8% Staffordshire Terrier (which apparently is under the "pit-breed umbrella" and 37.8% Border Collie 24.4% mystery blend of Terrier and Herding breed (WTF is that cop-out?" i filed this under NO-CHIT since the first two discoveries were a terrier and herding breed) i am half tempted to swab him again and send it in again..i bet we get different results.

Just looking at the picture, I could tell that the "Aussie" was a low percentage....he has the facial features of a pitbull mix/staffordshire, but he does have the bobbed tail like my Aussie. Good looking dog, and hopefully a good family member as well.

It would be interesting to get a retest. Let us know the results if you do. It also shows how much people know about defining dog ancestry. I bet you wouldn't give him up though.

a week ago..i've never heard of a Staffordshire. hahah..
yea. he is an insane family dog. dont tell my wife (she shoehorned the dog into our lives using the Jedi Mind Trick on me), but he might be the best adoption of my life. instant house break, super trainable. he walks into his harness. has never torn up anything in the house..never piss/pooped in the house.

The wide eyed, intense stare, cocked head, curious look is border collie.
The big round chest squared face short hair and triangle ears is pit. The mottled two-color coat is something I can't place. Maybe jack russell?

Yup, that face just screams "pitbull". Pretty unmistakable. What an adorable dog - gotta love those big blue eyes. Doesn't matter what his ancestry is, most of us are mutts anyway. Just love him and have fun with him - that's what it's all about.

My neighbor has a huge pitbull. One of the nicest well behaved dogs I’ve ever been around. But they love the fact that he looks the part so nobody ever knocks on their door without an invatation.

"American Staffordshire Terrier" aka "Staffy" is the politically-correct name for pit bulls. We were at an animal shelter one time, which was chock full of pit bulls, all labelled "Staffy"

Very interesting, Cliff. Thanks for sharing.
I think you won the lottery with that combo of breeds. Herding dogs hold a special place in my heart for their intelligence and devotion. What is the name again of your furball?

No, they are distinct breeds, similar, but not the same

What does that have to do with it????
Bobbed tail is man-made, not genetic. Last edited by tcar; 09-19-2018 at 11:59 AM.. |

Potato Potahto....
From Wiki... "The American Staffordshire Terrier, also known as the Amstaff Or Staffy/Staffie(in the United States of America), is a medium-sized, short-coated American dog breed. It is one of several breeds in the pit bull group" |
