What happened to personal responsibility and accountability?

Hey i got an idea: how about we go to a golf tournament, stand on the side of a fairway where golf balls land, and NOT pay attention.
Then when we get hit by a golf ball, we can SUE the organizers because of our own stupidity and irresponsibility?

I mean, it's all THEIR fault, right?
We would not know that golf tournaments involve golf balls traveling far and fast.
We would not know that golf balls can go basically anywhere.
I mean, how could we know that by standing on a firing range we could get shot at?
it's not like it's our responsibility to look out for our own well-being, that's someone else's job, right?
Sure, why not.

Most sports have taken steps to protect the stupid fans. Hockey and baseball put up nets....

Maybe golf spectators need helmets.

Could she see the tee-shot from where she was standing? Those people crowd the fence for reasons I don't understand.

It happened in France, where a lawsuit would presumably be brought. In the US a suit like that would most likely be barred. Generally speaking, spectators at sporting events assume the risk of ordinary events, like getting hit by foul balls, etc. It's only when there is some gross or reckless negligence that recreational torn immunity is abrogated.

I've been to several PGA events and can tell you that it is not easy to spot a golf ball that was hit from 300+ yards away. That said, I assumed the risk by standing near the known landing zones.

Most of us see the how this could be just another idiotic law suit. It sure sounds dumb to me.

But....here's a side thought, the medical bills. I have good insurance, I generally don't worry in the least about injury or illness. But, I can see the possibility these day's that the individual may not have as good of insurance as I do. That person could have a crap one and suddenly faces a mountain of doctors fee's, a ambulance ride, reconstructive repair stuff, plus expensive drugs. Couple that with loss of work. That one golf ball, could be a financial ruin.

Then you get some ambulance chasing attorney telling you that they will take care of everything, this kind of stuff happens.

I really try to see the best in folks, but I can see how going bankrupt could change a normal person into a desperate one-WW

This happened in France. They have universal single payer healthcare and they do not have a common law system of lawsuits.

Someone should have politely tapped him on the shoulder and suggested he pay attention. It’s the polite thing to do when someone stands around with their head up their ass.

Free ride. Everybody wants one. Much easier than putting on your big girl panties and going to work every day.

This isn't a legal issue or different country issue, this is an issue of personal responsibility and lack of character.
It's an issue of a POS looking to hit the lawsuit lottery, and blame everyone else for her lack of common sense and accountability.
You'd think she ran over a sandbag.

Woman hit by Brooks Koepka shot says she nearly died, plans suit against Ryder Cup
Ben Rohrbach
Yahoo SportsOctober 3, 2018

Corine Remande, the Ryder Cup spectator who lost sight in her right eye after being struck by an errant Brooks Koepka tee shot, told BBC News that she could have died had she been hit on the side of the head. She is reportedly planning to sue event organizers, accusing marshals at Le Golf National of not properly ensuring her safety and urging Ryder Cup officials to make changes moving forward.

The 49-year-old Frenchwoman told BBC News that a handful of concerns have made her “very angry” in the aftermath of the allegedly life-threatening incident, charging officials with failing to: 1) provide proper safety warnings on tickets; 2) alert spectators about the incoming ball; 3) convey to fans that players were trying to drive the green on the par-4 sixth hole; and 4) check on her at the hospital.

European Tour officials countered all her claims, telling BBC that: 1) tickets clearly state safety concerns; 2) “fore” was yelled multiple times on Koepka’s drive; 3) they are not informed of a player strategy prior to tee shots; and 4) they have been in contact with Remande’s family since the incident.

European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley provided the following statement to BBC:

“Our deepest sympathies continue to be with Mme Remande and her family. Brooks Koepka, who has said he is heartbroken by the incident, has also contacted the family.

“We take our responsibility for fan safety extremely seriously and we have been in regular contact with the family since the accident to offer our support and we will continue to do so.

“Millions of spectators attend and enjoy golf events each year. Incidents of this severity are extremely rare. The safety of our spectators is our paramount concern, and this will continue to be the case.”

In a press conference before the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland on Wednesday, Koepka called his errant drive “the one shot I [will] definitely regret in my career,” adding that the hours after he learned Remande had lost sight in her right eye “was one of the worst days of my life.”
