The 2018 Semi-Biannual Western Ohio Carwash and Rodent Rodeo

In theory, every autumn I push my toys out and wash them down, vacuum out the detritus (usually due to visits from rodents), and assess the deterioration since the last rodeo.
I say in theory because winter weather usually clamps down before I’m able to get the cars out.
Not this year! It was 89 degrees on October 9th, and I had no excuses. I got the cars out and gave them a thorough cleaning up and made plans for getting them back on the road next year (yeah, right).

Things have gotten better over the years. While the Speedster has been ready for duty pretty much continuously for 30 years, the truck was laid up for 7 years while I restored it. It's been on the road for 3 years now. Starts and runs just as reliably as my Tundra.

I’m only about 2 hours south of the Swamp, a bit west of Dayton. I’ll be bagging the cars for the winter next week. But yes, come on down in the spring!

Yes, unfortunately the 911 sits. I’ve rebuilt the 356s and the truck up from the last nut and bolt. I feel a little intimidated by the 911 so I procrastinate. No excuse about the 356 coupe. I could fix it in my sleep. My motivator is busticated.

Thats a lot of work. Let me take the SC/Carrera off your hands, and make life easier.

Seems like it's "tuck them in or sell them" season - we've got three Speedster reps up for sale on Craigslist, and then this guy:

Just curious, what needs done to the 911 that has you intimidated? 911's really aren't that bad to work on. I have had my engine out of my car 3 times all by my lonesome and had to reassemble my 3.2 after a setback removing head studs meant that my brother who had experience with engine assembly had to go back home.

Oh, forgot to ask! Do you store the speedster with the top down? there seems to be different schools of thought about whether or not that's good for the material...

I could drive out and get it and rebuild it but you won't get it back until 2021.

You know if you get Wayne's book and send parts out to competent vendors, you can rebuild your motor yourself.

Nice looking but a little light on info.

Here are the local replicas:

https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/d/1957-porsche-speedster-replica/6711586443.html
https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/d/1957-porsche-356-speedster/6717515255.html
https://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/d/1957-porsche-356-speedster/6716544415.html

A nice-looking one a bit further away:
https://nashville.craigslist.org/ctd/d/1957-porsche-speedster/6707119975.html

And what you get when you search "speedster" without "Porsche."

I just need to change the head studs, take care of the usual "while you are in theres" and put it back together. I can go through the steps to rebuild any part of a 356 in my head, but I've never done a 911. I'll have to have time and a lack of distractions so I can concentrate on learning new things. I got the heads back from Craig Garrett about 2 years ago and it's just been one thing after another ever since. I have a warm place to work in the winter now, so it's a 12 month a year project instead of a warm weather project now.
Getting the engine back in is going to be a challenge with the equipment I have now. I've got to get creative about lifting the car and lifting the engine trans.

I used my trailer as a "lift" to get the engine out.
