				Thinking about names

It’s another one of those “up all night” nights. Can’t sleep, nothing to do but think.

Our dogs all have names, but we almost never use them. Our Golden Retriever “Gracie Mae” is called “Grapsie” My poodle “Madison” is “Mads” “Owen Walter” our Schnauzer is called “Fart Head” MrsWD is big on middle names. She even gives the dogs middle names. The only reason I can see for a middle name is to let you know when you are in trouble. I guess that’s why moms like them so much. When Madison hears “Madison Marie she heads for the closet. When I heard my mom say “Patrick William I knew I was going to be picking out my punishment switch. I can’t see any other need for middle names. Back to bed for another try (at sleep).

Nikki is her middle name. Middle names make a good way for an adult to have options should the first name have issues. Personally if I'd have gone in the direction of NASCAR driver I'd rather use my first and middle name on the car rather than first and last name. |

Had a similar night. Nuff said on that. I tend to shorten names much like you describe. My youngest son is Harrison, I call him “H”. My daughter is Rachel...”Rae”. Our dogs are Zuzu...”Zu”, Murphy...”Murph” and our puppy is Alfie...”Alf”. Not much need for middle names around here when the entire first name isn’t even used!

I get taken aback when people use my legal names as they are rarely ever used.

I'm used to "Terv", and if Terv isn't used then some comical mispronunciation of my last name is the go to. |

			Our dogs name is Roxy.

We used to call her Roxy Roller quite a bit. These days we mostly call her ‘******* Stupid’ or ‘Idiot’. She got run over 3 weeks ago and got very lucky with only one small broken bone. Last weekend she ran between my truck and my gooseneck trailer when I was hauling livestock. Last night she ran in front of my gravel truck. She still hasn’t learned to not chase cows... We have a smart one over here...

Their "proper" name. Their nickname. And Superhero name. The fuzzy siblings are Thor and Natasha. Collectively known as "the floofs". Singularly she is the floofette. Thor is also "the idiot" and "*******" Natasha is tashypoo, the diva, and screamy face cause she just sits in random spots around the house and starts screaming for absolutely no reason other than she can.

Our Chocolate Lab is named "Nalu". It's Hawaiian for "ocean wave". It wasn't my choice, he's a guy so it's almost like naming your son "kick my ass on the playground".

But he likes it and I think dogs names should be one to two syllables in length, with the accent being on the last syllable. They seem to react best to their name that way. But I call him "Bub", we're best buddies. He's a real kick in the head, don't know what I'd do without him.
