It happens more than you think, at least in the old days. After I left my first squadron, they had an accidental discharge INSIDE an H-60.

I betcha everyone in the service that has anything to do with aeroplanes or heligo-flopters knows about the Forrestal.

On 29 July 1967, during preparation for another strike, a Zuni rocket installed on an F-4 Phantom (#110), misfired, impacting an armed A-4 Skyhawk, side #405, parked on the port side.[10] The rocket's impact dislodged and ruptured the Skyhawk's 400-gallon external fuel tank. Fuel from the leaking tank caught fire, creating a serious conflagration that burned for hours, killing 134, injuring 161, destroying 21 aircraft and costing the Navy US$72 million.

sheesh that's a tough day for sure.

you'd think they'd have some sort of parking lock on the weapons or something!

Well, the good news is that General Dynamics gets to sell another F16!

Gotta look for the bright side!

I saw that story. I'm not sure it wasn't intentional. Seems that there is an investigation into that possibility.

As a former heligoflopter pilot, I had to go through shipboard firefighting school in 1984/85....32nd Street in San Diego.

When the term "this sucks" was coined, it was coined at firefighting school. I hated everything about the experience. Fear of fire, fear of confinement, fear of every f'ing thing about fire on a ship.

"LTjg Morgan, what is behind that hatch?"

'Not me, Chief!

I didn't mind the univ of Reno Dodd Beals school, the tejas A & M deal was a bit over the top.
I was invited back to the Reno school as an instructor for one class. Didn't pay nuthin though.

I fought seven oil refinery fires and was part of the EOC on another two.
More than enough, never again.
we never had a fire on a ship even though we had marine terminals and off-loaded tankers.
At least in an oil refinery you have someplace to run if you're fast enough.
