What an Amazing Little Car - 356 Content
I've often said that my desert island car was/is a '60s Ferrari 250-GT-SWB-Berlinetta-"Competizione". I can't tell you my favorite movie, or my favorite song, or my favorite band, but I can tell you with 100% certainty, that's my all-time favorite car. If I could have only one car to do all things for my lifetime, that'd be it.
Now, having said that, I also really long for the simplicity of another 356. I grew up with one and briefly had a 356C, that was very rough and in need of a restoration beyond my $$$$ and ability. I got it as part of a trade for a VW engine that I built for a friend, back in the late ‘80s. I regularly check online classifieds for a 356C...something in decent "driver" condition. Prices are obviously crazy and many of the cars are over-restored for my taste and needs. Today, I stumbled onto this. Not a "C", but a VERY special car, nonetheless, with exceptional documentation! I LOVE the 4-cam Fuhrmann engine!!!! And it’s like a factory race car that someone ordered for the street! For sure this is a unicorn, but WOW! Just WOW, I’m in love! AWESTRICKEN. Again, the documentation is astounding. It might as well be 250-GT-SWB, I’ll never have enough $$$$ for one of those either! $895,000, or make offer... G'day!

Of all Porsche models......this one is the most iconic.
Without insulting the one posted.......I prefer all original, myself. A jealous lover's scratch the length of the passenger side is a bonus.... ![]()

On mine there is a faded (well, more than the rest of the car) spot of paint the size of my 12 year old butt from when Dad had just washed and waxed and I sat on the fender and slid down...

One of my bucket list dreams is to drive a 356 cross country from NC to CA.

Think the passenger side arm rest and "oh shiat" handle still have my grip marks on 'em... Thin the worst trip I've even been on was from here in N Fla down to Key West and back... I was 15, 5'11" and in the back seat with luggage for 3 and scuba gear for 2 packed in the trunk, on a luggage rack on the engine lid, and around me. In case you are wondering, the secret is to put your butt on one side of the car - behind passenger - and your feet on the other side down behind the driver. Don't ever recall all 4 of us (dad, mom, older brother, me) riding in it at the same time after I turned 5 or 6 ... |

When I was a kid, my dad and I took a trip in his '60 356B from FL to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and back! Will never forget it. The car was bullet proof!!!!

As for originality, I'm a big fan of the tastefully done "outlaw" style. I'm talking about the classic stuff that Emory and Willhoit build! SUBTLE!

my dad had a 356 Carrera briefly
when it was in tune it was amazing but fouled plugs regularly in slow traffic and the racing carbs would not stay in tune with changes in temp or pressure no a/c and very loud inside he bought the car for 3k and quickly sold in thru an R&T ad for 4.5k to a guy who flew in from texas on a test drive way out on the tamiami trail at 100+ the buyer took his hands off the wheel to see how it tracks [my dad freaked out] but the guy bought it and drove away the car had alloy f&r panels and doors and stripped int back bench was just burlap like a feed sack over the metal no pad where I rode I remember getting out with a checker board pattern from the burlap on my legs nice car and an important part of Porsche history but NOT really a street car to be daily driven |

I've heard that when you go to hell, the devil gives you a 4-cam engine to rebuild, which includes setting the cam timing...
