"Project Gold" 70th anniversary restomod- SOLD for 3.4 Mill!

Porsche is making itself its own birthday present, and it's a gift that they will then auction off to the highest bidder. Meet Project Gold, "A classic body is the starting point for a vehicle that will ultimately become a truly unique piece – assembled in the Porsche Classic workshop and individualized by the sports car manufacturer's designers." What do you see from the sketches?

Porsche will have an online reveal of the vehicle August 24th and then will show the car in public at Rennsport Reunion VI in September. The week of October 27th RM Sotheby's will auction the one-of-a-kind vehicle as one of 70 lots in the Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale held at Porsche Experience Center Atlanta. What do you think it'll go for?

Porsche has been releasing previews showing the process of creating it, showing that it's color scheme will be black and gold theme. We get more of an idea of what it will come with as we see 993 Turbo hollow-spoke Twist wheels and the 911’s recognizable Turbo script on the seats. Porsche says, "a vehicle like this has never existed before." The final reveal will be at Pebble Beach's Monterey Car Week on 24 August.

From these three videos, it certainly looks like a 993 turbo.

Auction off? Perhaps somebody like Seinfeld needs another for his collection....

I would have made sport seats, if I was doing such a publicised project.

I think I'm officially over special edition Porsches that sell for unobtainable money. It's part of the snobbery that I dislike about Ferrari, and Porsche is headed that direction.

It's not a special edition. It's a resto-mod done by the factory, sort of like the Jeeps FCA builds for the Easter Jeep Safari.

Fat old white dudes don't fit in sport seats that well.

Nice I use a big hammer and chisel or sometimes a centerpunch.

I'm with you. When they offered a special edition Turbo S 997 only available to buyers of the 918 I realized that Porsche had decided that Ferrari was doing it right.

Next, they'll decide what you can do to your car after you buy it.

The new 935. A special edition GT2RS for 918 buyers.

Porsche’s ‘Project Gold’ 911 Turbo sold for $3,415,000! Check it out here.

Quote:
We’re told said significant sum will go towards the Ferry Porsche Foundation, supporting the homes of Porsche’s Stuttgart and Leipzig factories and also supporting work in education, research, sport, culture and social affairs.

The car then. It’s a 993 Turbo, built on an original, new-old-stock bodyshell direct from the factory, straightened and checked using Porsche’s original frames and equipment. Porsche then went digging around the parts pin, finding 6,500 original pieces specifically for the 993.

If they’d gone for $3.5M they could have gotten the optional sports seats.
