Just picked up a couple used 50cc race bikes on Craigslist for my grandkids. I can't wait for next summer to hit the old local MX track.... Me in 50+ class and the grandkids is in 50cc peewee classes.

I had a great time riding mx and dirt bikes.
My first was a stripped down Yamaha Enduro. Second was a first year Honda 250M. |

Awesome Tim...
I assume 2T bikes like the KTM, or Cobra? When my step-son was younger he raced a CFR80 in the 65cc class and held his own. Stepped up to the 85's for a summer but that was it. You riding an Elsinore? ![]()

![]() (BTW, that KTM looks the business! If you hadn't told me it was a 50, it would never have registered in my little brain as a peewee bike!)

Me, close to 60 and still ride my Honda CRF 450 hard and fast. I started my son riding a motorcycle when he was 8 and started racing motocross when he was 10. We had many great weekends spent at the track both racing. In high school he was one of the only guys who raced and the girls thought that was cool. You and your grand kids will have some good times ahead.

My riding (on a KLR 250) is more sedate, and mostly farm lanes, and wooded trails. Good luck with the racing, but what about the dirt stocker race car ?

Sold the race car mid summer when I had a bad night which put me out of a chance to win the points championship. I have had this CR250 for several years. Just have not raced in about15 years. I have ridden it on a modern MX track (Durhamtown Plantation in Georgia) a few times over the last couple of years. I can still ride hard, but endurance/fitness will be my biggest obstacle. I will need to ride a bit more cautious than I did when I was in my 20's and winning at the local tracks in the 250B class.

I love my two strokes.... That said, it is more work to ride them fast on an MX track. I would likely have an easier time racing a modern 450 but I have no plans of buying one right now.

After sitting for over 10 years in a barn, the PW50 carb was just a tad crusty.
![]() ![]() ![]() A little cleaning and some micro drill bit work to clear the jets and it runs perfect. The KTM carb was full of just 2 stroke oil which was odd, but no crud to dig out at least. It fired right up and runs good with new gas and some good old Klotz R50 oil.

I just ordered the parts I need (hopefully) to get my dirt bike running again after my kid blew it up. I ride a 2 stroke Husky WR300. Kawasaki is teasing a KX350 2 stroke. If they make a KLX350 2 stroke, I will probable buy one.

My kid had a PW50. The best mod I did, was to ditch the oil injection, and run mixed gas. That thing would literally plug the silencer every 5 hours. (Bone stock and brand new). Adults riding it wide open for miles at a time wouldn't produce enough heat in the pipe to clean it out.
I used to put it on a stool, and get it hot. The run it wide open for a while with a mapp gas torch on the pipe/silencer to burn the soot out of it. It didn't matter if I used Yamalube synthetic, Royal Purple, or Lucas. It always plugged up the pipe. The oil injection was a bad design on the PWs. Personally, I would get the PW running well and sell it. Buy a CRF 50 4 stroke. It's a far superior bike. |

BTW the KTM is a stellar bike. I really like your CR. I still have my 84 CR125 that my parents bought new. It's been a few years since I've rode it. I had a "PSI" burn on my right thigh for years.
