Democracy!
I'm watching America elect its representatives. I love this country. There are plenty of things wrong with our public policy-making process, I think, and some of you might agree. We are watching our democracy in motion right now though, and I am proud and excited. In two years we will do it again. It seems to me the most 'right' part of our system.

Except for the two years of campaigning leading up to tonight. Which criminal will win the tax payer funded gravy train?

Yes Tobra, you will have input. Every two years.
This thread was intended to be a celebration of democracy. I hope folks can respect that, and not PARF this up. C'mon. I'm personally seeing some results I like and others I don't. This thread is not about my personal preferences. Or yours. This thread is about democracy. Viva!

Back to the OP. Yes, I agree. Yay America!!!
I love that lots of people voted. I disagree with about 50% of them. Doesn't matter. What matters is that they care. They care about our future and are voicing their opinions. An active Democracy is far better functioning than an apathetic one. Just yay! |

We are not a democracy, but a representative republic...the representatives supposedly elected in a democratic manner. I have my doubt about the latter.

Now about Putin and the damn election interference? I frankly preferred when we hated the Russians and not each other. Sort of a fan of the unanticipated benefits of the Cold War.
(Not trying for Parf, friend's) let's be nice. |

Cortez and her fellow progressive Pressley of MA WON. I said Cortez would win. Beto in Texazz came close.
Lots of women, gay and Muslims...in the house in particular. Welcome to a socialist wave coming...only thing there ain't no money. We have the year of the outsiders...it fits the changing of the guard scenario. It is a tie....D's get the House R' s the Senate. Governors its is more or less a push. I have a set of beliefs and principles from another time and place that no longer exists. I am a dinosaur.
I can not call an election very well cause I am afraid of being wrong...my ego at play. At least I am smart enough to keep my mouth shut on making predictions. Last edited by tabs; 11-06-2018 at 10:06 PM.. |

Regardless of your politics, one must recognize that the "blue wave" simply did not happen. Barely enough to take the House. About half as many as Clinton and Obama lost at midterm...and a gain in the Senate with will provide a much better ability to confirm Judges (likely a 3rd SC Judge). Not really a big blue night...and the President is celebrating.

I am glad you are seeing some encouraging things in Washington.
Not a single thing to be encouraged about in California, nothing at all. Hah, input. I can regularly go down to the Capitol, sit in the office of my "representative," and explain at length to them how their intended plan is going to be bad for the state, cost a fortune and have a profound, direct adverse impact on the poorest individuals here. No effect at all. It does afford me the luxury of a protest vote every time in the presidential election, so there is that. There were problems with the ballots and voting here too.

Nevada has gone completely Blue. Governor, 2 Senators ...women and 3/4 Congressmen. Let alone county commissioners.
The bright side Denis Hof R won...ohhh wait he is dead. Last edited by tabs; 11-07-2018 at 12:31 AM.. |

Unbelievable turnout for a mid-year election imo. Good to see! A couple of real surprises here locally too...totally "out-of-the--blue".... gotta be due to the turnout imo.
