BTW, no way I'm riding one of those bikes! My luck I'd hit some turbulence, flip over the bars or fall off the back and be chopped up by a prop.

My son calls it Americanizing.

Look at the Mini Cooper reboot, the Mini 2's were nice and compact, every subsequent generation grew until we have the monsters we have now. they are Maxi Coopers now.

Fiat, the 500 is tiny but we needed an Americanized version so they made the 500L (for large Americans) and the 500X. (for Extra Large Americans)

HOVERBIKE*

Hoverbike frame: a supporting power platform, made in the form of a spatial carbon monocoque. The overlap of the cross forming is reinforced and fixed by power plates from below and from above. On the end sections of the power platform, independently working sensored engines with propellers are mounted on the beams. Above the center structure of the supporting power platform a module containing our computer, on-board flight system, sensors, battery and generator are all housed.

Not very safe looking compared to other designs I've seen.

I imagine a relatively short operational period, like under 30 minutes.

The flying platform I posted a while back had about a two minute operational time if I recall correctly.

The speeder bike in question is a Hoversurf Scorpion 3, which is basically a scaled-up drone turned into a police motorcycle with four propellers at the four corners that allow it to hover at a preprogrammed height. Powered by batteries that can be swapped out to cut down on the three-hour recharge time, the bike can travel forward at speeds of up to 45 mph, with a maximum operating time of 25 minutes between recharges. The bike can also operate remotely without a pilot at speeds approaching 60 mph, but where's the fun in that?
