I was wrong
I've often said I never saw an exotic parked outside a pool hall. Also said you could tell a pool player because his case and cues were worth more than his car. Yep, earlier today, I was proven wrong.
A guy walked into the cue ball. Asked to see Jim, the owner. He was there to look at a classic Brunswick Centennial Jim has for sale. The table was a no sale, although they did talk for a spell. All this time Cindy & I playing at our usual table, so not involved... But the guy did arrive and leave in a new Maclaren....so yep, I was wrong. I never actually saw the car, but Chip the counter guy showed us photos he'd taken on his smart phone... On 2nd thought, I was right! I've still never seen an exotic parked outside a pool hall. I sure did hear about it though.

It's nice that you play pool with your wife.

Well, it is sort of a time warp to go to the cue ball...like the line out of "The Hustler" movie. No bar, nothing but pool. Over 30 Classic Brunswick Anniversary or Centennial tables, well maintained. Also a snooker and a 3 cushion billiards table, if either is your game. Definitely NOT one of today's fern/spots bar themed places. That's what we appreciate about the place. Jim, the owner is a Crusty old bastid with a heart of gold. He's been there since the early 60's...once he has warmed up to you...oh, the tales he can tell, the characters he has met and known.
And yes, as "diverse" a place as you can find..in age, race, social status, and income level. At the tables, none of this matters...it's the game. Many imagine themselves as good at pool, same thing with sex and driving. Very few are really top level. True pool halls are as rare these days as drive-in movies. It will be the country's loss when they are all gone. The guy in the Maclaren took all this in and appreciated what he saw...telling Jim so. https://www.thecueball.com/

I am sure lots of people would find it interesting to visit the pool hall, it is unfortunate that there is not address, city, or state listed on the website though. (it does say Salem in some of the text though, so it is a start)

Says it on the site..12th and State Street, just two blocks East of the state Capitol. Salem, Oregon.
The Cue Ball 1262 State Street Salem, Oregon 97301 Phone: 503-362-9740 If you'd done more than look at the home page, you'd have found it.

Perhaps I am missing something, or my browser is not working correctly (Firefox). But while I do see "12th and State Street, just two blocks East of the state Capitol", and see Salem stated somewhere else on the website, and I did look elsewhere beyond the home page, nowhere do I see:
- Which state (assuming it is in the USA) - the street address - a phone number

To paraphrase Steve Martin on things you will never hear in a pool hall, "tell the banjo player he left the lights on in his McLaren."

Well hell...if you wish some schooling in life as well as explore the mysteries of the game, spend some time at a real pool hall. You now know where one is...
(edit) Hell, I'm frequently wrong. Just ask the woman I've lived with for 45 years...
