SaladMasters. you ever hear of this company?

good lord.

wife and i got invited to dinner. i declined but my wife put the screws to me. she said, the host requested couples come as couples. (1st warning). i was told the host has people cooking for us, like a cooking class. i asked, "she hired cooks?"
"no, they are doing it for no charge". (spidey senses firing now - 2nd warning)
"they are cooking full vegetarian" (okay, not really a warning per se, but now i really dont want to go!)

we get to the dinner friday night, and i am in full question mode. then i see HER. some lady wearing an apron. she comes to shake my hand. whoa! super super hot. she glided across the room. (3rd warning!)

it all clicks and i give my wife the stinkeye! this was a sales pitch dinner!! MOFO!

let me summarize. the pots are supposedly cladded with the same titanium our medical repair bits are made of. zero reactivity. 316T titanium. they took some regular pans from the host and boiled down baking soda and had us taste it after doing the same with her fancy pans. expectedly, her pan, the water was good, the rest astringent. people were getting on board! apparently the bitter taste was supposed to be leached out metals from the pan. stainless included.

pans, despite being simmered were supposed be be cooking under a vacuum. to reduce heat, and protecting nutrients. there was a perforated button that jiggled like a pressure cooker to indicate the correct pressure.

the biggest set of pans had everything and cost $22,000 but if we bought it that night she could cut off 50%..quick math..i figured out $11,000.

the food tasted like warmed up veggies. zero salt.

next page, i'll post my conclusions.

my conclusions: this is what i think played out.

the baking soda test. all the rest of the pans were boiled way down until there was just a puddle of concentrated solution. the pan was all dusty from the cooked down baking soda, like it was dusted with powdered sugar. tasted just like that one time i tried to brush my teeth with the stuff. her fancy pan had a lot of water remaining, and there was no powdered sugar dusting. i think the water would taste the same if we boiled down water in a glass bowl.

the food. was essentially steamed. that was why the meal had to be vegetarian. i should have asked her to fry and egg, or cook a pork chop. warmed up veggies are easy for any pan.

the vacuum cooking. not possible. unless my thermodynamic professor was wrong. i know for a fact every time that button poked up and the holes exposed themselves, the contents would see atmospheric pressure. the lid being slightly stuck on there, i assume was nothing more that surface tension.

Typical MLM scheme. You can buy equivalent (if you desire this stuff) for a lot less elsewhere. I doubt it will be the same brand, etc. The most expensive titanium on Amazon is <$700. Williams Sonoma tops out at 1500 with what seems like the = to your deal at 999.

As for demonstrations go, there was a scam years ago when the salesperson would come to your house and draw off some tap water and then make a small amount ot reverse osmosis water from your source. Then they would place an electric calrod type charcoal lighter in each water in Pyrex bowls. The water with minerals would start to gas out whereas the essentially distilled water was more inert. They falsely concluded that proved contamination.

The State of CA Consumer Affairs fined ans shut down all such pitches as false advertising/marketing. It seems when a new product comes along, someone figures out an angle to demonstrate superiority. The thing is, what does a calrod have to do with drinking water and what does baking soda all by itself in a solution have to do with cooking? What you saw was the micro technology slippery enough to reject any residue. The taste of the stuff is totally irrelevant.

So, you already nailed it.

11 grand for some pots and pans for the "special". Dang, that is absurd.

My wife has a nice set of stainless steel pots and pans that we use often. They look like new and she got them back when she graduated from college, and that was more years ago than I will post on a public forum.

My wife bought this

Back before I knew her, my wife bought a set of Salad Master cookware. Back then it was made of surgical stainless steel. I use it to this day and it works well. The frying pan cleans off quite easily. We once had a handle break on a pot and got a new pot to replace the broken one, and got to keep the broken one. It was expensive back then too(mid-late 90s), wasn’t around for the bill but I think in the $5K zone.

I think you’re essentially paying for a good product (okay, sure) but more so for $in$urance due to it’s “LIFETIME” warranty. I suspect any quality SS product will do just as well.

So I guess an aluminum pot would kill everyone inside of a week?

We attended a dinner hosted by some friends many, many years ago.
We had fried chicken - IIRC, he used the electric skillet. Everything they cooked tasted great! We got to choose a "gift" and opted for the kitchen grate appliance. I think we donated it to Goodwill several years back.
I recall the scare tactics of the aluminum pans and teflon pan assortment they had showing the wasted money spent on those...

I would haul the Discada over to her house, whip her up some healthy stir fry and offer to sell it to her for $1k and a free set of her cookware.

I spend a lot of time in my local Goodwill. There's ALWAYS a bunch of Pampered Chef stuff there, typically new-in-box. People feel obligated to buy something when their friends host a "show."
