How the hell did I get to be 51?

Birthday yesterday, sort of a milestone as I enter the second third of my life. Should hit 100 with good genes alone but working hard every day and never eating processed food should help. Banking on science to get me to 150, there's just too much to do.

What an incredibly fun ride it's been with some serious highs and lows alike, never boring, always something happening. The Porsche community as a whole is simply amazing, truly cherish all the friends I have around the world through it. Have to figure out if I should get married at some point. Kids are looking less and less likely but would still like to have them if I can.

Started Tru6 over 3 years ago, have had exactly 2 days where it felt like work; whoever said don't make your hobby your profession needs to rethink that position. My only complaint is I don't have time for my own projects like the 928, 2.7 MFI motor build and of course a new widebody flare design I've modeling with clay little by little.

Was talking with a dear friend from college yesterday, her daughter is only 3 years away from when we first met freshman year.

Where does the time go?

What do you hope the next 50 years will bring? Where are the jet packs we were promised in the 70s?

Admiring a friend's Panamera, she loves it, waiting for prices to come down to $20s. Best, most technical t-shirt I ever designed and printed. Sometimes miss Traveler Kids. What a fun ride it's been so far.

Happy birthday! I’ll hit 60 in Feb....hard to believe.

I read a book a few years ago called Physics of the Future (I think). The premise was....the technology growth we’ve seen in the last 100 years is nothing compared to what’s coming in the next 100. IoT and AI are just the start.

Nanotechnology will be huge for space exploration (imagine releasing 10 million tiny mega computers into space at near light speed in a million directions). Or imagine those same micron sized computer/robots coursing through your veins destroying any pre cancerous cells, eating plaque and monitoring vitals.

Today’s young adults will see amazing things in their lifetime. Let’s hang around to see as much of it as possible! Enjoy your birthday.

I hear you, Shawn.
My friends children are in university or finished. Mine is 10! Slow starter, I guess.
I turned 55 this year and did a few things to keep me happy.
A new mountain bike and did get decent mileage on it this year. Although I was feeling some regret for not riding it more due to time constraints I was happy with the use I did get out of it.
Since I was blowing dough on bikes and I was listening to a friend talk of how much he enjoys his fat bike I decided to buy in. What a blast riding those big fat tires and the traction is amazing with the studs installed.
The SC is not getting much seat time these days and have seriously considered selling and simplifying that part of my life.
Time seems to accelerate through our 40s and it seems to be a linear relationship between age and how quickly the years go by.
Glad that you are healthy, happy and self reflective on your birthday. "An unexamined life is not worth living"....

Happy birthday Shaun. Great t shirt. Yes time does seem to fly. I am 72 now and I remember the car I had when I was 51. I had a 1984 Voyager AWD magic wagon.
Cheers, Guy

Happy birthday, and I'm glad you are having a great life. You're a good guy and you know how to make the best of life.

You could have heard that quote from me - and recently.
You're only 3 years in. Wait another 27 years and look at the 928 still gathering dust, your 2.7 and your widebody projects put on hold, marriage(s) and kids neglected, making too much money to stop, but really wanting to do something else for a change.

Work your ass off doing what you're doing for another 27 years and get back to me on rethinking.

Happy Birthday Shaun. The body ages faster than the mind. I'm 68 and mentally feel no different than I did 10, 20, 30 years ago. My body is another story.

All the best and have a great day!

Having owned only 2 Porsches (and a 914) before I was 50, I got Porsche fever at age 57 when I started in on my 2nd 914, which was to be a race car. That was a disaster but it didn't deter me from the Ragamuffin project (an R Gruppe inspired semi track car) and my Carrera mod project (which was never well received — don't ever mess with Ferry).

That having been told, the "2nd half" of my life had a late start but I did things never imagined beforehand. Now with the antiques restoration business, life is rich.

Happy birthday, Shaun and many happy days.

"Hippo birdy". (Look that one up) I turned 72 this year, have been retired 12 years and am enjoying every minute. It sounds like you're doing the right thing and taking care of yourself and that's just about all anyone can do. After watching all of my friends from my parents generation pass away, it brought me more in touch with my own mortality. We're ALL going to die some day, so don't worry about that and enjoy each day.

Happy birthday! Ahhh, to be in my early 50's again...with none of the physical problems I have at 75. Enjoy every day, man!

Happy B-Day. At 51, you're like a 911 with 100K miles. Just getting broken in. I really had fun in my 50s.

Great that you enjoy your life and have your priorities right.

Happy birthday Shaun!! I sure would like to have the quarter century to go back to your point in life again. You've got the right attitude. Keep it up. The old cliché, "Life is what you make it" is soooo true so keep on going full steam ahead. There actually comes a point where you come to think life has been lived. I have a friend turning 104 in two days. She's in a place where they take care of her, has glaucoma so can't see much, needs a walker to get around, but her mind is still sharp. However she says she's ready to pass on to whatever is next, partly because she's had such a full life. The idea is to keep the pedal to the metal and enjoy it until the old vehicle bites the dust.

Happy belated Birthday, Shaun!

I was just thinking about the same thing this morning....I'm 64 and where did the time go?

Time really does fly.

I go back to John Rogers' thread about the little things in life...I think that's important.

Cheers!

How the hell did I get to be 51?

That happened while you were freaking out about being 50. --likely for a year or so.

LOL! Too true. The old saying is spot on: Life is what happens while you're making other plans.

Happy birthday I will be 61 in January and will also celebrate 1 year being retired . I am loving life and enjoying every day . In my opinion age is just a number , I have said for a long time now that I have known people in their 30's that were old and folks in their 70's that were young . Take care and enjoy .
