I'm still trying to figure out what surf fishing is!
Are you fishing off of a surfboard?

Around here "surf fishing" is fishing from the shore, or wearing waders, and fishing while in the surf..

So if you're fishing in a bay from a boat, thats just fishing..If you're in a bay fishing from shore, you're still just plain old fishing.. even if your wading around the flats in shore, in a bay you're still just fishing...wade around the flats with a fly rod...you're fly fishing..

English is a weird language

Not sure about the lingo in other parts of the country.

So, I fish standing in the surf with a fly rod in waders. I'm fly casting into the surf, but its's not a floating fly, or a fly at all really. It's a sinking fly that looks like a sand crab. How do you define that?

Like you could be using one of those two handed fly rods... then you're "spey casting"

At least no one has mentioned the "Catching" paradox

Regional lingo.. etc.. I know with my brothers and friends, the type or narrowly defined name/style of fishing is defined by what we are trying to catch..

How do you keep the hat on?
