JAL pilot at 10x alcohol limit

https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/01/uk/japanese-pilot-heathrow-drunk-scli-intl/index.html

Sheesh. The guy was about to fly a 777 out of Heathrow. Had 189 mg alcohol per 100 ml of blood, which is a measure I'm not familiar with. But he said he drank two bottles of wine and a pitcher of beer the night before. Guess that will give you quite a buzz and quite a hangover.

I think that's a .189 bac.

Two bottles and a pitcher. That's a lot of volume.

Sum Ting Wong? Or was it that other guy?

Obviously not the first time doing this !

Dunno about the pilots, but JAL has amazing service in business class.

Gogar 11-30-2018 08:29 AM

yes .189%

speeder 11-30-2018 08:54 AM

He basically did not have enough blood in his alcohol stream.

Normal vehicle impaired limit would be 0.08 or 0.06 I think.

I think he was three times the limit?

Ten times the legal limit would kill most people I think. Either that night or the next morning.

dad911 11-30-2018 08:59 AM

10 times over limit, he get's a 10 month vacation behind bars: https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2018/11/30/japan-pilot-prison-vpx.cnn

Katsutoshi Jitsukawa, 42, had almost 10 times more than the legal permitted amount of alcohol in his bloodstream when he was arrested, the Metropolitan Police said.

The rules for flying are completely different.

8 hours “bottle to throttle” (anything within 8 hours means you’re automatically in violation), or 0.04 BAC even if it’s from drinking prior to that.

That’s USA. Not sure about Great Britain or japan but I’m going to guess they’re similarly restrictive if not moreso.

stevej37 11-30-2018 11:22 AM

Looks like he is a professional/(drinker)

I got stories. Alaska Airline pilots drunk on their ass trying to get into a hot co-workers pants at 1:00 am at the Captain Cook hotel in Anchorage. She obliged with one of them.

Fly out same morning at 7:00am on a heavy.

JAL dude just got caught.

Oh for sure I know stuff happens (used to fly for a living myself). There’s what the regs day and what some people actually do.

Yea - dumb and he got busted. Job opening. Next in line, you’re up!

daepp 11-30-2018 04:47 PM

Truly shocking - although I guess it shouldn't be...
