My youth in black and white, (man I'm old)

The store I looked at every day
The restaurant (Pool hall in back) that my family ran ( where I grew up). Which was next door to the church which I didn't attend.
The church.
The store next door where we bought our stuff. Door on far right is where I would get big puncheons of molasses, for after school bread and molasses a staple at that time.

And the Hotel just down the street. And train station. Then back to the present with the largest tree on PEI near where I live now. Train station

Tell me more about the pool hall...

Yeah, I'm old too. Try not to worry about old age. After all, it doesn't last long.

In the pool hall, we had a beautiful 6 x 12 billiard table and two smaller tables (probably
4 x 8) we played only billiards, skittles or snooker. We never played 8 ball (hard to
believe).

Skittles game could go on for hours, and often did. Fond memories for me.

PS I spent a lot of time at this, but never really excelled at it.

Here's a better pic of the large store next door, truly a "department" store. You could buy anything from fridges to horse shoes.

In the pic of our restaurant the store would be just to the right, except it was torn down during our time there.

Cool old photos. I know what you mean first hand about the black and white era. I grew up in the Leave it to Beaver era, and had similar life style as the Beaver. Mom never did housework wearing high heels and pearls however.

I scanned many boxes of old family photos. From many sides of the family.

Most of mine are a bit more uh, rural.

These are my grandparents, my mom's parents. The were "courting" at the time. It is weird to think, that if those two did not get married and have a second daughter, I would not exist.

Thanks for sharing. Love to look for details in the old photos. The 7up sign leaning against the restaurant/pool hall would be worth a few bucks today.

Where is it that you grew up?

I have a TON of old family photos. I scanned them in high resolution, and uploaded them to my family tree on Ancestry.com. I have had many distant cousins thank me for photos of their relatives they never knew existed. The main reason I put them up there, is to preserve them for the future. I have no kids, and I gave the family photos to the families I could find, and hope they keep them, but now the photos are scattered across the country. My family tree can be searched on the internet, and the photos, and some cool old stories are out there.

This was written by my great aunt back in the 1940's Not politically correct for 2018, but it is what she learned. I find this interesting. It is just part one of three pages.

He said PEI.... (Prince Edward Island).

I thought the same thing about the sign... there's a company that makes replicas.

I have a bunch of B&W Polaroids from the 50's.

I grew up in Wellington, PEI Canada That 7-up sign should say "Leo's Restaurant" (my dad). Back then in the 60's 7-up would have paid for that sign.
Thank you all
for looking, I enjoyed it too. YP

The games and the tables fit the times. BTW, Willie Mosconi set his record of 526 balls run in straight pool on a 4X8 Brunswick. The record still stands...

Good stuff.
I had done quite a bit of work tracing genealogy on my father's side but just recently started digging into my mother's side.
I found that Harry Reasoner from 60 minutes had the same great, great, great grandfather as mom.
Lots of history on the Reasoners, lots on the Dixons (back to brother of Jeremiah Dixon, Mason-Dixon line).
But couldn't go back more than 5 generations of Hastings so far.

It's easy to get buried in it.

At the cemetery where my parents, and mom's parents and uncles are buried I took photos of headstones of some of my relatives. I was amazed to discover many people cherish photos of the resting place of dead relatives.

I followed my tree back 6 generations in most directions and 10 generations following my family name. That far back is the point of millions of cousins. Great Brittan has some good records, but many of the German records were destroyed in WW2. I have German ancestors from my dad's mom, and my moms father. Different parts of Germany. I guess that is why I like beer. Hey that is my story, and I am sticking to it.

The cool part of using Ancestry.com is I have an app on my phone and I can look up my family tree anytime. I can find marriage licenses, and death certificates of almost all of the family anytime. Or just a photo of them, back to about 120 years. Past that not many photos.

That lineage of the Vaughan in the headstone photos above are my 2nd great grandparents. Jame evidently had 9 brothers and sisters. Think of all those cousins. I did not have any photos of her, but someone on Ancestry did so it is part of my tree now.

It is addictive.
