Rented my truck to a photographer

These photos aren't very inspiring, but they are the settups using the photog's family, not with real subjects. Still - more straw bales! More pumpkins people! It's an October theme! At $100 a day I only have to do this about 500 more times to make this resto project pay off.

The last pic is out of focus, but she's proud of it.

Truck looks great. DO you have an an actual old plate from the same era as the truck? If not, I'd get one and put it on for shoots like this. Then you can easily charge $125 a day! I just saved you 100 days of rugrats and bridezillas crawling all over your sweet truck. You're welcome.

Just don't rent it out for movies or TV shows. I get request all the time to rent out one of my Unimogs. My buddy who is a stunt driver said never to do it if you want your truck back in the same condition it left in. They will abuse it and not pay for the damage done to it. I tell them I have to drive and the rent is $5k a day plus expenses. If they are willing to pay that I would do it, but have not had any takers as of yet!

You truck is too nice! It needs more RUST!!!

This got me thinking in my photography head "how would I set these pics up differently?"

I googled "family photography with truck", went to google "images" and got about 1000 pics for inspiration.

As a hobby photography nut myself, I wonder if there is a way to kindly drop that hint to the photographer.

Here's one that could be considered a little overdone, but composition wise has a lot of goodness going on:

Got a call last weekend, Movie crew in LA needed a 911 Monday to be returned middle of January.
For 5 weeks they were paying $5k. I said no thank you.

One story told to me was that a movie car needed some mud on it but the mud would not stick to the polished paint.
So they sanded the paint so the mud would stick.

“DO you have an an actual old plate from the same era as the truck? “

Yes, it’s a 1947 Ohio FARM plate. It needs to be repainted. It’s a mess.

“truck's, cool, pics are pretty snoozy, especially that first one.”

I’ve seen the actual photos with subjects in them and they are pretty nice, there are even some straw bales. The color contrast with the yellow straw and blue truck is great. These shots are set-ups, checking light and backgrounds, etc. The subjects are her family. She didn't get releases for me to have photos with paying subjects.

Just don't rent it out for movies or TV shows.”

Been there, done that. I got $8000 plus $1000 transportation to haul it to Arkansas for a summer and leave it with them. This was before it was restored. They took good care of it except for putting a tire on top of the cab, which caved it in some. Looks like they went to NAPA and bought everything
in stock that would fit a 1947 Dodge. They sent me home with big box containing a new fuel pump, water pump, clutch disk, about a dozen light bulbs, and a six volt electric fuel pump. I came out on that deal, as I had paid $2500 for it and only invested in a tune-up and brake job at that point.

Yes, of course. The floor is ash, really pretty wood. Most people who "restore" an old truck with a wood floor finish the wood with clear polyurethane, like it was furniture. They are painted black from the factory. I like authenticity but I also like to see the grain of nice wood, so I compromised and stained it with Ebony stain. So it's black AND you can see the grain.

That is a nice looking truck. Did you leave it stock, or upgrade the brakes and add seatbelts?

Most total beginner photographers have zero clue how much work it is to set up just one image to make it look like it just was not set up. I used to spend hours on one shot. Of course it was the stone ages of film.

This is my brother's old Volkswagen Westfalia Camper. He has had it since the 1970s. He was at a VW car show and a couple approached him and asked if they could use it as a backdrop for their wedding photos. He was speechless, and just mumbled sure. They asked him to move it to a different spot.

I would love to see some more pictures.

I love how woodwork is different from piece to piece, the material it comes from makes its own art.

I'd say you made a nice choice

I've seen stained ash used in place of carbon fiber interior inserts on an exotic car. Looked sharp.

Get Lorena's money while you can `cause unless there's a dearth of decent photographers in your area ...

Read the fine print.
These are set ups. She probably hadn't even gotten the tripod out yet.

Nice truck, but I want to know what kind of camera was she using and where'd she get the quilt?

The only upgrades were to add seatbelts and a second rear light on the right. It came with one rear light an no turn signals. I converted the cowl lights in the front to turn signals. After looking at some other original 47 Dodges I believe I have the wrong horns on it.

I know. When I shot a lot of farm tractors i would carry a brush and a five gallon jug of water to scrub the tires down and keep them wet while shooting. Owners would fret over a little dust on the paint, and not even notice the mud and crap on the tires. I carried black panty hose and black construction paper too. Batteries and oil filters are often exposed and usually stuck out like sore thumbs. I could cut the leg out of panty hose and put it over the oil filters and tape construction paper over the logos on the batteries.
Then came photoshop....
