Web pages becoming nearly unusable due to ads and videos all over

Is it just my older laptop (three years old), or are the web pages becoming so crammed full of junk these days that the pages become almost useless?

For me, if I click on basically any big news website, or basically ANY big website, I can barely get the page to scroll so I can try to actually read whatever it is I'm trying to read. Videos pop up all over, and banner ads are starting to populate nearly all edges and corners of the page.

It gets so aggravating that I basically say F U to the website and leave it.

It seems that only the message boards are remotely usable these days.

Are you guys seeing this too? Or is it just my older laptop not able to handle the barrage of junk thrown at me within every web page?

I had the same issue and installed an Ad Blocker. It really helped.

Yes and No.

Yes, most sites, especially big sites and news sites are like that.

No, I don't have that problem because I'm using Firefox with the an ad-blocker and Noscript which kills most of that crap in it's tracks. It does occasionally make things more difficult, especially when it's new or when you go to a new page, but for me, it's completely worth it.

Steve, I can use Firefox, if needed. Do the ad-blocker and Noscript come pre-installed in the browser, or do I need to get them as ad-ons? If so, which ad-blocker do you like?

I have been using Ad Block Plus for years to block ads. Works well for me!

Even with that most 'news' sites will tell a story that normally would populate 1 page. Now, they show short paragraph / picture and then you have to scroll through 8 additional pages filled with ads and crap. I hate it, so I pass when that looks like its going down a 10 web page road.

This is what I use with Firefox. I actually unblock sites that I like and use a lot. If it’s a useful site I want to keep using it and they need to make money to stay in business.

That's not news. That's click-bait

Some sites require you to disable AdBlock before you can proceed. When I get that message, I just say sorry and I am gone.

AdBlock however more and more ads are getting past it lately. Go onto Yahoo and even though it will block 28 ads, every 'article' box on the side is an ad that's gotten through.

Ublock Origin and Ghostery here on Firefox. Though I still hate the Firefox Quantum update.

I have not seen a single ad in the last 5 years.

They are add-ons. I used to use Ad Block and then Ad Block Plus, but I have switched to "uBlock Origin" as mentioned above.

What this guy said ^^. Actually, I think he's the guy that steered me towards uBlock Origin and NoScript.

There are some new browsers you can try that have ad blocking, and script blocking built in..

Look at Vivaldi and/or Brave..

I agree it really frosts me when a site asks me to allow it because of my adblocker.... its then buh bye..

Opera browser with built in ad blocker.

Works as well as and often better than Adblock.
