can you run hot water too?

very helpful to have it...

URY914 06-15-2020 05:59 PM

Before I can continue running the planks I need to install the door and trim so I can run the planks and butt them up to the trim. This is the location of the door from the outside. This will lead to the new laundry room in the corner of the shop. It leads in from the deck and about 4 steps from the kitchen door.

This is the inside of the same wall. I''d already moved the water heated which in the corner on the right when I took this.

Actually going to have a sink on the inside of this wall with hot water.

The door was a PITA to cut out, reframe, replumb, build the sill, waterproof the outside, move the washer drain. Took weeks. Here it is now.

The conduit on the right is the feed to the panel on the wall on the right. On the left of the door just below it is the washer drain line. When we bought the house the drain ran into the backyard. At least now it drains to the house. I need to repipe it between but for now it works. Next is to build a floor to bring the laundry room up to the floor elevation of the deck.

Once I build floor then I'll put the water heater in the corner behind door. I'll go back and insulate the lines too but its not a big deal here. You can see the kitchen door on the right from here. The door on the left is going away. That door is lower because the floor of that room is a step lower than the rest of the house. I plan to fix that by raising the floor and taking the door out.

Reached a huge milestone yesterday:

I passed the building department's FINAL inspection!!!

Still have plenty to do; finish the deck, paint it, soffits, gutters, etc., etc. And that's just the outside.

Congratulations Paul! That must feel great.

URY914 08-27-2020 05:53 PM

Thanks Shaun. It does feel good.
I drove about 80% of the nails myself.

I'll keep posting as I buildout the interior.

Looks great!
Nice score on the sink too.

Man you get some very cool and useful stuff from work. Congrats on what looks like a job well done and it must feel good to save that $300 a month and have all your stuff right there at hand.
It seemed like a long hard project but you have the satisfaction of doing it mostly yourself and your almost done except for some small finish up items.
Good luck with many years of usefulness
Tony

Congratulations Paul, must be a great feeling having that signed piece of paper

The outside looks great, very professionally finished so I'm sure your inspector found approval was well deserved

RWebb 08-28-2020 04:05 PM

Congrats!

But I'm curious as to why there is a 'concave' exterior corner...

Racerbvd 08-28-2020 04:25 PM

Congratulations, when is the shop warming party?

Good question; So if I had laid out that corner as an outside projecting corner it would have blocked our view of the golf course pond. This way we can see the entire view from one corner of the yard to the other. If I had realized how much more roof framing would be involved I may have done something different.

When I finish. ;)

Time for an update don't ya think?

I've been working inside and out after getting the final inspection.

I built a golf ball protection device over my one and only window. Today when I got home from work I found a ball about 8 feet from the window. I have no idea if it hit it but I'm feeling better now that it is covered with galvanized screening.
